There's a team championships built into the marathon so every country gets to send 3 now if they wish even if they don't have 3 qualified so there is no entry standard.

Is it not 6 for a team with 3 to score?

Yeah, right you are. Minimum of 3 with a maximum of 6.

That is fierce soft qualification. Should be a great incentive though for our marathon runners to nab an Irish vest, but it will result in less attempting the more difficult 5000m and 10000m standards.

Hopefully the likes of Scullion will have a crack at the 10,000m time, given that he was a few seconds off that time this year. He could have multiple attempts at the 10,000m time, and still have a pop at the marathon on the back of the 10,000 training. Qualification window is from 1st January 2017 - 30th July 2018. Hopefully the AAI will release some clear-cut criteria this time around. Based on existing 2017 times, men's and women's marathon teams would look something like:
Men: Pollock, Seaward, Ciobanu, Hehir, Clohisey, Frazer
Women: Graham, Connolly, Ganiel O'Neil, McCarthy, Jennings, O'Doherty
(though you'd imagine that McCormack could easily clock a marathon time that would see her qualified if she wanted to).

If GOH runs sub 2:18 surely he’ll have to be sent as National Champion?

Really excited about the possibility of having a multi eventer or two competing in Berlin. They’ll probably have to go to Gotzis or somewhere to nab the standard. O’Connor may prioritize juniors too, given she is so young.

Only if that's in accordance with the rules the AAI choose to set out. It would seem logical to me (specifically, send the national champ and the 5 fastest performances during the qualification period), to drive competitiveness in the National Champs. Also as the team result is based on the fastest three scorers, it's a low-risk/impact approach.

I reckon GOH's performance in Dublin is probably worth 1-2 minutes on a faster course anyway (such as Rotterdam, yes I know he ran slower in Berlin just a few weeks earlier), so while he has not run 2:15, he's not as far adrift as his 2:18:53 would suggest. It would be nice to see Sergiu getting the nod as well - and with a 2:16 just four weeks ago, he seems to be the 'on-form' runner at the moment. Hard not to see Kenya Turkey winning the teams events easily.

Dunno about that, the likes of Kaya and Arikan would be seen as contenders over 5000/10000 and with the transfer freeze dunno how competitive that team is outside of Oblizen.

Poland usually have some of the best depth in Europe and with commonwealths ruling many U.K. Athletes might not be too strong either

Would imagine Moen will focus on 10k and go elsewhere for an autumn marathon
