When did it become a christmas movie tho? Only heard that in the last couple of years with youtube etc. Growing up it was always just a great action movie. Anyone else the same?

I remember hearing on one of Kevin Smith's podcast that the scene where Hans Gruber kills Harry Ellis was added into the movie to illustrate that Hans and the terrorist were the bad guys. Apparently before the scene was done, Hans was considered to be too sympathetic as a villain, so they put it in to make him look evil.
