Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It was very sad to hear that two of those killed in the Amtrak train crash in Washington on Monday were lifelong railfans that had actively campaigned for the improvement of rail services for their state. They would have been very excited to have been on the first scheduled service over a new route and while investigations into the causes are ongoing it was a cruel irony as the title of the article suggests.

    What a sad story.

It seems that there is a possibility of excess speed causing the derailment.

A cruel irony on the two gentleman who sadly lost their lives.

The investigators are focusing on the the excess speed of the train going into the bend, and the fact train safety equipment was not yet operational.
Work to install the sophisticated, GPS-based technology known as positive train control isn't expected to be completed until next spring...

The train was travelling at 80mph in a 30mph zone when it raced off the rails as they curved toward a bridge
