best lga 1155 motherboard

Hi guys,

Building a decent enough pc i think. Got myself an intel i5 3550 and radoen 6870 1gb(enough for what i need). Now I know I need a LGA 1155 mother board but not sure how to pick one. I would be hoping to pay 70 max. Want 8gb of ram.

Literally anything works fine, as long as it has enough USB ports or w/e.

Good luck finding RAM + mobo for €70 though!

Only problem is you'll probably have to either buy expensive new, or just get a 2nd hand one on adverts or ebay.

At this stage you could just pick up an old Dell s1155 based optiplex system with a Pentium G2020 and 4GB ram for about €70 and drop your i5 into it. HD6870 would require a new PSU though with dual six pin connectors, it's an old card so low performance at high power usage.

So between PSU, board and 8GB ram you'd probably be looking at €150 or so if buying 2nd hand.

A 400W+ Bronze-certified is the lowest I'd recommend for any PC with a GPU.

Kolink, EVGA, Corsair, Seasonic, Be Quiet are good brands for budget builds.

The problem with buying HP/Dell motherboards is it's hard to know if they'll fit into a regular ATX/mATX case, since the PC makers used to get non-standard parts.

Also if going for one of the earlier chipsets (h61,z68 etc) ask them if the bios has been updated to accept ivy bridge (which your chip is). These motherboards came out before your chip, and without a bios update won't be compatible.

DDR3-1600 (many boards can take faster speeds - if you can find it for similar price, get that instead)

Just quick update.

Havent bought the motherboard yet but got myself 2x4gb of ram by cruical ballistics tatical 1600.
Like i said also need a radeon 6870 to fit it and need a 400+ psu(yet to get)

Just want to be sure this is the best motherboard I can get for €80.

The only compatible, cheap boards I found on eBay (within EU) are Asrock H61M-GS and ASUS P8H61-M LX

It would be easier to just buy a Dell Optiplex mini tower with a G2020 (means compatible with 3rd gen i3/i5/i7) for €80, add your i5 and get a new GT1030 graphics card for €75.

It'll work on the stock PSU so no need for that, and uses a fraction of the power of the now rather ancient 6870 while offering better performance and newer features.

Buying all the parts separately will end up costing you more and the 6870 is a power guzzler also.
