Wilfried Ndidi is back in contention after serving a one-match ban but Robert Huth (ankle) and former Reds midfielder Matty James (Achilles) will remain out until the New Year for Claude Puel, who made seven changes for their League Cup game against City but is expected to revert to a similar team to the one beaten 3-0 at home by Crystal Palace last weekend.

United will be without Eric Bailly, who underwent surgery yesterday on his injured ankle, and Antonio Valencia, who sustained a hamstring injury at West Brom. The boss doesn’t expect Michael Carrick to feature over the festive period and is unsure whether Marouane Fellaini will return but the Belgian will miss tonight’s game.
