Yesterday we had fibre broadband and phone line installed by Eir.  The broadband is working but unfortunately our phone line is not working.  The line is ringing when you dial the number but the handset is not working.  We have been trying to get through to support but cannot get talking to anyone as the system says it cannot find our details.  We really rely on ourour land line so we are not impressed with the service so far.

Have you tried another handset  to rule that out for a start sometimes phones just die for no reason it can happen
did the tech not check the line prior to leaving?

You are plugging you phone into your router as I think all fibre installs are IP phone now

The tech didn't check the line as he said the phone would not be active straight away and it was not showing as active on the modem. The handset was previously wired by Eir into the back of one of their sockets the tech didn't do any connections from the handset to the modem. Thanks for the reply.

If you previously had a landline from eir,you keep that on the old analog line
There is no reason why it would stop working
The fiber install has nothing to do with it

If you ported, then try the phone connection in the modem

Similar problem from this thread yesterday.

Is it a new fibre cable to the house or just a new modem in the existing socket? If it's a new fibre cable then your landline is most likely now a VOIP phone which just requires you to plug the old handset into the phone socket on the new modem. But the modem needs the new settings and this is done by Eir remotely. Dial 1901 from any phone to contact them.

As a workaround, if you have a my Eir login you can use an app from Eir to use your mobile (over WiFi or data) to make & take calls using your landline number. There's links on that thread for the app for Android, IOS etc.

    Hi Jenanne,

Thanks for contacting us here. The best advice I can offer is to contact our customer care team on 1901, they'll be able to troubleshoot with you to identify the issue. They will need to determine if it's an issue with the handset or the order activation on the system.

    Thanks

    Tracey
