I've been keeping half an eye on Porto, their games tend to be featured on FreeSports and last night they were terrible again, couldn't find a goal against very lowly Moreirense and scrapped past promoted side Tondela yet they are top of the table unless Sporting win tonight. They seem a very workmanlike side these days, a long way from the days of AVB's era. Danilo is out for one, and maybe both games.

    Doing the homework eh? Dork...

I'd like to think we have top 4 secured with 3 to go. We just need to focus now..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,287 ✭✭✭✭citytillidie

You can make an even better argument, We could be 5/8/11points ahead of them and only have 2 games left we would not be favourites in , Plus Chelsea last day they may be already top four secured and playing for nothing, , See it works both ways,
Win Sunday and on paper we have the easiest games left of the top 6

    Chelsea is 2nd last day

Krisztián Adorján just came on in a friendly for Dundalk in Spain.

Was part of a group of players Liverpool took from Hungary ( MTK Budapest) a few years back

What fools. Hope he runs down his contract now.
City are over paying at 50m.

They are getting nothing now, Man City have told them to do one.

I'd say they are happy with that too and a great move by Leicester. He is under contract and will be easily worth money in summer too he is worth more to keep him to make sure they stay up.

95 million at this point of the transfer window is actually spot on for Mahrez, he’s quality and they don’t have time to replace him. If this was the first of January, he’d be sold for £60m or less.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

Strange not to sell him, Leicester are staying up and not going to reach the EL/CL places. I suppose you could say he'll be worth as much in the summer but he could break a bone tomorrow (tonight). They can certainly plod on without him so poor is the league below them

Looks like Lazar Markovic to Swansea is off but Liverpool still looking to loan him out elsewhere prior to tonight's deadline. #LFC

Silly season at the moment with some of the transfers. Giroud to Chelsea! Tottenham got good value for Moura. I quite like Batshuayi, seems he's gone on thr cheap too. There are deals to be had, you just have to make a feckin offer!

Batshuayi is only a loan deal. I also don't think he's any better than Origi... much of a muchness there really.

But yes, particularly from PSG - a bit surprised we didn't perhaps try to take advantage of them needing to sell before they pay Monaco for Mbappe. (Though there were rumours we tried for Pastore, who would've been a good fit) We'll see I guess...

I'm not terribly bothered about us not going for Lucas Moura though. I like him, but we already have two wing forwards who want to play on the right, I don't really want a third. The next player of that type we go for should be at his best on the left side.

I'd imagine we will hear something from the usual heads at around 10ish claiming Liverpool tried for a number of players but were unsuccessful.

Find it a bit strange that we are not in for anyone at all with the squad so light. One win over a terrible Huddersfield side doesn't mask our lack of depth. A couple of injuries and our season is in real jeopardy.

We are always hearing that Klopp will not buy players he doesn't 100% want and will wait if he has to before acquiring them. But we haven't heard of any players this window who we are interested in or made a move for. We knew we were interested in Salah, Keita and VvD in the last window because our bids/approaches were being refused.

But there has been no bids this window or any word of us interested in any players like during the summer. And it's not like Leciester who wouldn't have had time to find a replacement if they sold Mahrez. We have had practically the whole window to get someone in and we probably knew Countinho was off in the summer to give us even more time for future planning.

We are flush with cash, light in our squad but not in for or interested in any one. Has Klopp been told that's it till the summer by FSG or is Klopp happy with what he has? I'd find the latter hard to believe, all the managers at clubs in the top 6 are adding dept or trying to add depth to their squads. Sanchez, Laporte, Mahrez, Aubem, Mikhi, Moura, Giroud.

And we are just sitting on our hands after selling our best player for the second highest transfer fee ever in the history of football.

    Weird.

Sunderland are going to knock the love of football out of Ejaria, aren't they?

Would love us to start loaning our young talents to Celtic. Rodgers' football isn't a million miles away, and it seems a much more accurate reflection of how they'd be asked to perform in a Liverpool team... mostly facing teams that sit back and ask you to break them down.

At least Grujic at Cardiff will be in a team that dominates the opposition as often as not, and has to deal with finding that breakthrough, but the situation Ejaria has at Sunderland will be night and day with the situation at Liverpool. Just don't see what this does for him... it's the type of environment i'd really rather our players weren't subjected to.

Well, if you want something to get excited about - before having your hopes and dreams crushed - we've apparently made a late move for Isco.

This is almost certainly not a real thing. But, we might as well try to have some deadline day hysteria while we're here.

Here, sign someone before the window closes, incase we're light on numbers for the rest of the season, even if they're not an absolute perfect signing, no? ok, cool. Be grand, I guess...

The game is looking tasty enough on the tackles front.

Hopefully a red or 2 get dished out. Even with the slight drop in quality I'm fairly positive about our chances, but Spurs missing a few players would obviously be nice.

Wouldn't mind someone playing out there showing a bit of width though.

Meh. The only thing I've been impressed with is his abiity to dribble and keep hold of the ball. If he can't do that while getting lumps kicked out of him at that level then he's never going to cope with the PL.

    It's funny.
To my eyes Spurs look better than we ever have at building through midfield, at maintain width and getting the play out wide, they've Kane, they've a much better defence, a better midfield in general, broadly speaking similar levels of quality up front, yet they're currently 2 pts behind us having scored nearly 10 fewer goals.

Their press certainly isn't a patch on ours, of course, but is that the difference? And I suppose we might have similar levels of talent up front but we've far more pace.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,495 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

That’s some strange logic. Even the rich clubs have a sense of value, and there isn’t any in buying on deadline day with deadline day prices when you’re squad is absolutely fine for depth.

While we went on a great run they went through a really bad spell after winning their CL games impressively.

The assertion was £95m was a "spot on" price for Mahrez this late in the window. I guess it is if by "spot on" you mean a price which no one will pay.

By that logic £100m is "spot on" the right price for Marković so ;)

For me, a "spot on" price is the maximum price you can get another party to actually pay but perhaps I'm wrong.
