Cool. On shield? Cos I can't get any Netflix to work in any country. Which server number are you using?

I just connect to Canada Server, I don't select a specific server. I only really turn on VPN on the Shield if wanting to view from non Irish Netflix

I must say my Google home integration seems to have much improved in the last week or so. I can now tell my Google home to open apps on the Shield. Hey Google open Kodi on the Shield now works.

I'm also using the Emby for Kodi add-on to give me my Emby library in Kodi. With the Emby home Google assistant integration I now have full voice control of what I want to play through Kodi.

    • [Beta] Adds setting to automatically switch color modes (Settings > Developer Options > Colorimetry).

This is the most important inclusion in the 7.2.2 upgrade I think.

The auto switch from 709 to 2020 is being worked on for the next upgrade and also a suggestion Android 9 will be rolled out to us at some point but i believe we will never get Dolby Vision.

Anyone having issues with RTÉ player ? Mine keeps saying “couldn’t find stream ‘ was working fine until a few days ago on the shield ?

Update 7.1.1 seems to have messed up the ability of my Shield to read a USB stick, this was supposed to be fixed with 7.2.2 (which I installed yesterday) but there's still no difference. Anyone else having this issue?

Think about all the other private things you do on your smartphone that involve your email, shopping, banking, PayPal.

I'm always well clued up and take my personal security very seriously. I don't use my visa online much I try to stick to PayPal and Revolut where I can. I use random passwords everywhere and change them every so often. I have a VPN connection to the home router I use for hotel and public WiFi. This Sunday morning I got a call from my bank asking about an attempt at a transaction on Nike.com for £560, it didn't go through but got flagged as suspicious. I can't for the life of me figure how it happened. The last time I used the card online was on Netflix.com.
My point is you really need to wise up, I do too. What you're doing is idiotic IMHO
Agree don't want to let yourself open

Hey guy's just looking for your opinion of amazon prime on the shield, do any of you use it, ? and is it in sync ?

I just got a free month trial of amazon prime and thought I'd check it out on the shield. I noticed it was terribly out of sync.

I am using a samsung soundbar. I had the audio set to the best of my ability on the shield with the little bouncing ball thing. I have my sound bar set up and also my kodi, I have the offset done on that too. So youtube is perfect on the shield, all my movies are perfectly in sync via kodi but amazon prime looks horrible. Anyone else having sync issues or just on my side ?

    Thanks

The current best price new is about £174 so yeah about €200'ish.I usually keep an eye on the suggested retailers on the UK Nvidia store.

Between those you'll eventually find a new deal.

Am I missing something with the rte player app on the shield ? I downloaded the app from the playstore on the shield, installed - fine. Seems it looks pretty nice and feels good but I can only watch previous shows etc... I can't see any option to watch rte1 or 2 live. If I go on the laptop, the live is there no problem....

No live TV on the Android TV app

No live TV on the Android TV app

    Thanks for the info.

Balls on it anyway. I have a soarview tv but I can't get the stations, I need an aeriel on the roof. During the summer if I wanted to watch a hurling game I'd stream from my phone to the shield but I was hoping this would be much handier. I do use iptv but be nice to have the live player just for back up. The app seems clean and decent, real pity no live player!

do you have static ip? if not, check that the correct ip is registered with getflix.

So do I have to update every two days or when it stops working.I have changed dns on router.Couldnt be that I have to keep going in and changing them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,583 ✭✭✭savemejebus

Getflix works based on your IP. so if your provider has given you a dynamic IP that changes every day or two then you will need to go into the app or the website dashboard and just click update so that getflix can match your service to the new IP. If you have the app on your phone it's fairly painless. You can also maybe request a static ip from your ISP if they do that.

Does anyone have any recommendations for IPTV on the shield?

Are there any good, solid paid services?

Also, is there anything free (with NO ad's !!!) that might be worth checking out.

Apologies for the basic question ... I'm very new to all this and probably missing out on lots that the shield can do.

I've been testing a lot of IPTV apps on the Shield over the last few days. I've been downloading and installing from Aptoide TV and also getting the apk through Puffin.

All of the apk's were poor and most were riddled with ad's or didn't work properly. I uninstalled where possible and deleted the apk through Puffin.

Does this mean the apk is FULLY deleted? I don't want parts of these files and apps hanging around my Shield. Does it damage or slow down the shield if I install and delete lots of apps???

How many times will people have to be asked not to post about IPTV services or ask for PM's about illegal services?? I mean FFS....

To those thinking of sending PM's, if people won't bother to read the thread, will they even bother to read your reply?

Last few nights it’s stopping every couple of minutes, fairly annoying to say the least

Yeah there's a thread about it on the Emby forum
    https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/66681-nvidia-shield-tv-playback-will-pause-constantly/page-5#entry679032

There's not much hope of you getting to the bottom of it if You've not got your own server. You'd need to contact your provider, they may be using issues

Sh1t like this will get this thread closed.

And the poster a 5 day ban issued.

This thread is here because so many people have bought the Shield (many are from bargain alerts), and to help posters get the most out of it. But discussion of anything dodgy is not allowed either on thread or by requesting of PM's.

Consider this post as the final warning, automatic ban for anyone not following these rules.

I would ask posters to report any posts and not replying to them please.

At this stage it needs to be added to the thread title and/or opening post. As it's a massive thread posters jump in and ask questions they shouldn't without even reading the previous page. Your warning will be lost otherwise. It's happening every few days

I know a few people are on the lookout for shields at the moment, one of the main mods over on WOS has 3 2nd hand units up for sale at the moment.
Not at a huge discount to be honest but they are from a reliable seller.
Just said I'd share here in case anyone is interested.

As does https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.iptvremote.android.iptv&hl=en which I settled on after trying many and using StbEmu for almost a year. It's got a clean Android TV friendly UI and is really simple to set up and use. I've linked to the free version, it you like it you can pay a once off fee (€5.99 IIRC) to buy the pro version and get rid of the ad's.

The reason I stick with stb emu is that’s what the provider I use told me that’s the best one for his iptv
I really should upgrade to the pro version but I’m just so lazy lol

StbEmu is rock solid and I used it very happily for over a year on my Shield (and Mi Box) but I always found it slow to load and the gareish UI and solid background green (implemented by my IPTV provider) an assault on the senses so personally I prefer IPTV which seems to be built (or redesigned) for Android TV and not only does it load incredibly quickly but it's easy on the eye.

(Sounds like I'm a salesperson for IPTV but I'm not, I promise!!)

I tried out retrox last week (only got the shield) its a handy way of having one app for all emulators but don't know if its any better than just having each individual emulator installed.

    It does work well though

The developer of RetroX has just posted that he's back recovered and working on RetroX again (slowly), he's added new features (game cheats) but that RetroX is now moving to an annual paid model with a more expensive lifetime subscription. Anyone who's already bought keeps lifetime forever, but from 28th January the annual sub will by the cost we paid for lifetime. If You've not bought get buying folks or it'll cost ye every year!

Yes, it's a great all in one emulator that's very easy to setup, well worth buying now just to have before it goes annual fee

You can't emulate PS2 on the Shield btw, PS One and PSP only

Had the same problem. I contacted Nvidia to fix it as it's been like that a week or so.
Have to wait from the RMA team to see if they'll fix or replace it

No, it's no longer on the play store. You need to pay for it on the Retrox site and side load it.
