Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Nvidia just emailed to let me know the new remote is available.
Clicked thru to buy, but currently seems to be North America shipping only.

Looks like it'll be a nice upgrade to the existing remote, especially the hardware volume buttons, and more dedicated buttons. I'll be ordering one as soon as I can.

Its a nice remote and very responsive, only issue I would have is that the back cover pops off at the slightest push or small drop.

On the new one? I had the exact opposite problem. It was almost impossible the open the ****ing thing when I needed to replace the batteries. Inconsistency could point to build quality issues.

The new remote is available online to buy. 33 euro with free shipping to Ireland, not too bad.

yeah, new one. Has been like that since the outset. I didn't have a spill with it or anything but the back comes off at the slightest touch. Think Id prefer your situation to be honest.

Me too. Only need to open it very infrequently.

I'd say drop an email to Nvidia. They are VERY good at replaceing that sort of thing.

New Shield remote ordered. The battery compartment can't be any worse than the one on my Samsung TV remote!

  • Registered Users Posts: 930 ✭✭✭Daz_

I downloaded the remote App to the phone and it’s very good . Got so sick of the remote that came with it , just became so unresponsive .

I own and seen a few 2019 Shield Pro's in action with the new remote and I've not yet come across a 2019 remote with a loose battery cover. It may have been a case of bad luck, with the reported case above. I've not seen too many complaints elsewhere either.

Would also be interested to know where to order one. Mine has just been destroyed by a spill, no saving it.

Isn't there an alternative third-party remote available with better volume buttons, etc. Think I read about it on this thread before.

Has anyone updated to the new 8.0.2 and any issues other than default launcher removal?

Installed app called launch on boot prior to update it but have not updated it yet. Hopefully this will keep my existing TV Launcher

Does Nvidia not sell the nvidia streaming boxes to Ireland?

Nope. Most people buy from Amazon or direct from nvidia, using AddressPal, ParcelMotel, etc. There are other places in the UK sell the Shields and ship to Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,936 ✭✭✭JDxtra

When I ordered the remote the other day, the drop down list said United Kingdom and Ireland (only two countries). Now when I check it only United Kingdom is there. If I select a Shield PRO I get the option of United Kingdom and Portugal. Sounds a bit messsed up!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,147 ✭✭✭BobMc

If I recall even stranger when I ordered my 2017 sheild via parcel hotel, its shipped from an address in shannon.

Any stock showing for the new remote??

as an aside, finally bit bullet and ordered 2nd shield pro, came this morning via amazon uk, cant wait to set it up,
new remote with duracell batteries already fitted how nice. 2017 sheild has been so rock
solid and like a fool been using it in the den, New pro is going on 4k HDR telly in main living room, originally been using
a MiBox, which despite its detractors has served me pretty well but its time is up

Finally they've done away with the terrible CR2032 batteries... every time I replace the battery with a new one, it indicates battery is "critically low" yet still lasts a few months.

    Hi Guys,

I'm ready to jump on the shield train after years with a fire tv. I'm going to grab the new tube model. Where is the cheapest place to buy these days?

You need to stop buying them in Dealz and buy Energizer :p

Seems standard most places at £149 (or the euro equivalent).

You could save some cash by buying from Amazon Warehouse which range from £131 with small imperfections to £146.02 where just packaging is damaged.

It's been mentioned here a few times, there's even been issues with known good brands out of Dealz

That's the Tube version - it's cheaper than the Pro model but most would recommend getting the Pro.

Hi guys just wondering what kind of prices are the 2017 version with gaming controller fetching now?

I'm thinking of upgrading to the 2019 model and would think about it if I got 170 and I could throw in a year subscription for stbemualtor.. Anyone think that be fair price?

There's really not a lot to be gained from the upgrade IMO.
The 2017 models were a stepped back version of the 2015, and apart from Dolby vision there isn't IMO any gain in buying new.

After using the new remote for a few days, I can confirm it's a nice upgrade on the 2017 version.

The volume being buttons was alone a reason for me to swap. Having dedicated play pause is handy too. I haven't looked to remap the Netflix button yet, but it's apparently possible.

It means you have to pay €5 a month for the service

The first 90 Days of Geforce Now are free, you will get charged €4.99 monthly after those 90 days are up. I must say I am very impressed so far, I have 150mb Fibre broadband and games like Destiny 2 and Yakuza0 run like a dream streamed to the Shield.
Games currently playable on Geforce Now on the list below. Some are still available free but the majority are playable if you own them on the Steam or Epic Store library.

is anyone using an Xbox one controller on their Shield? I got a used one the other day, but it won't connect via Bluetooth. Nothing shows up!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,027 ✭✭✭nedd

Are you holding the sync button on the controller?

Have you tried connecting it via USB? That worked for me with my PS3 controller. Connect it once and then it works wireless.

yeah, I was holding sync button. Also I connected it via USB and then tried again but no luck on Bluetooth. It was working ok on USB

I don't think all xbox one controllers are bluetooth. that might be the issue. I've used my xbox one controllers via bluetooth with the Shield, but there is a noticeable latency.

I posted this on another thread, more to do with my overall broadband speeds around the house. I have a 2017 Shield (which I believe can support up to 1GB download) and it's connected via ethernet to the router. I have 300mb FTTH in the house, but when I ever run a speed test (via the speedtest app) I can only get up to 60mb down. I assume I should be getting much more if I'm connected directly to the router?

It depends on the router, the router may not have gigabit ports, which if I remember correctly would limit your max download speed to 100mb.If the router does not have gigabit ports you may actually get better speeds via WiFi, most decent AC, 5g, routers would give you max speeds around 800mb. Also if you have powerline adapters anywhere in the equation these will drastically affect your potential speeds.

There's a lot of factors that can effect this and it's often an issue between the router and the device(s). Before you get too far down the rabbit-hole, are your current speeds causing you issues? If not, it's probably not worth the hassle of chasing it down.

No, speeeds not really causing issues, though sometimes playing stuff from Plex there's a bit of buffering. I have a media server in the next room which is connected via wifi. I have a Frtizbox 7560 which has gigabit portsI might try the wifi as you've suggested to see if that makes a difference. The issue I have mainly is that I'm paying for 300mb, so should be getting above 150 at least, I would imagine. I understand there's a load of factors in play. Ah well...1st world problems!

Get the media server off WiFi will most likely fix your issues, 60mbit is plenty for any 4k media
