Sleek, nifty (even though I dropped down from 2l diesel to the 1.5 petrol), handles really well and the spec is fantastic. Solid build and great space in it. Worth his while getting a test drive just to get the feel of it.

I hope the reliability is better than previous model, nearly everyone I know who has one has nothing but trouble

Never to old to learn. Your local library might even have courses on how to use a digital camera it that interests you.

Nonsense. I have had them for many years and never a single issue with any of them.

My dad bought his in 2014 brand new, never had a single issue with it. His previous car was also an insignia he bought brand new in 2009, never had an issue with that either. Both 2l diesels. Both have done 100k

Fair enough but I know 5 people who have one: 2 engine failures (non repairable), 1 litany of electrical problems, 1 turbo/clutch/pumps and 1 which seems to be fine. All in the 11-14 bracket. A quick google suggests these 5 appear to be typical.

they were pure garbage tbh, very troublesome yokes.

The new model looks nice and hopefully is a big improvement on the old one.

None of them had issues with the gearbox?! That is simply unbelievable...
But I guess the engine failed on them without proper oil pressure before that.

Mrs.Odysseys parents got a 181 Skoda Octavia the other day. Jesus they are a huge improvement on the previous incarnation. This is their 3rd one and by far the nicest.;)

Do you know what spec they got. Active is the base followed by Ambition, Style and the top of the line L&K. I got the Ambition and it's not bad at all considering the Octavia is always going to be a practical rather than exciting car.

Think it's an ambition, sat nav, reverse camera, auto fold mirrors. Really like the front of them. I'm a skoda head though.

Yeah, that sounds like the Ambition alright. I have it two weeks now and love it. I was looking for a more spacious car than my Mazda 3 hatchback. Very practical family car, can't beat that boot, swallows the buggy and other gear with space to spare for shopping etc.

I'm a fan of the new octavia, looks fairly slick!

I'm just after buying the Fabia Monte Carlo. It's only a 1l DSG, so nothing terribly exciting, but for city driving it should be grand!

If it has sat nav standard then it’s a Style. Style also has 17in alloys, dual zone climate, auto dimming mirror and more chrome

Picked up a 181MH Fiesta Titanium 1 litre eco boost as a daily driver, we are now a diesel free household, that itself is a relief.

Anyone got any guesses as to what might have lead to the demise of this Fabia after a month on the road? Looks fairly OK.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Very strange. No obvious physical damage either. Looks a bit rough for a 4 week old car. Even if it was major mechanical or flood damage surely it would be insured to repair and sell as a normal car. An alternate reason: a difficult divorce ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,364 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

A flood damaged car wouldn't be repaired imo, water gets into the electrics so unless every wiring loom, etc were replaced you would end up with lots of electrical problems down the road. Insurance company would just sign it off as an economical write off. That car could have been submerged due to recent storms.

Insurance and tax disk still in place, which indicates to me that the owner wasn't able to retrieve them, so my guess would be flood related.

And who puts an air freshener into a brand new car? Sure the new smell is nearly the best bit!! :)

I have the Fabia Monte Carlo with the 1.2 TSI 110bhp for 2.5 years. It's a fine car and the engine is nice, apparently the new 1.0 TSI is meant to be nicer though! What colour did you go for?

Replacing it with a new Octavia VRS 245 when it finally decides to arrive :pac:3 months and counting.

Good to hear! Nice call on the vrs (my next one hopefully!) I went with Red, I think it looks well with the glass roof and black alloys.

Ye, my initial thought was flood damage, but unless it was salt water I would've thought it wouldn't be beyond economical repair.

Love that red! Was torn between that and white for the VRS. Went with white in the end.

It has to be flood damage, especially likely after the last few weeks of incessant miserable weather. Loads of cars were written off here in Galway a few weeks ago in the floods. A guy I know of found his recently acquired 171 Mondeo swimming in an underground carpark!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,523 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

There were 2 1.2 hatchbacks registered and one was red!
