Its concerning, he always seems to be a week or 2 from coming back, it's been a while since he's started a game, with 3 games in a row hopefully he get time on the pitch before the round robin

Keep an eye on Brynes right foot/leg as he is coming in to meet Kelly in the below video link. An inch or two higher and Kelly could have been coming away with a broken ankle. There wasn't much in the shoulder, the stamp was dangerous and reckless.

Byrnes was lucky Hogans knees didnt make contact with him

Brynes deserved to go was my point, there can be no defending him. Hogan was silly to come in like a galloping horse and put himself in jeopardy.

If I was a Limerick supporter I'd be more concerned with a few of their freshmen not wanting to know about it. I suspect things might boil over come championship between these two when Hegarty, Hayes and Donoghue are thrown into the mix.

A shure we are either scumbags for fighting or soft for not.

Can't win when you are always winning.

Last game in the round robin so might not have any bite really depends on the rest of the games.

Disappointing result to be honest for Limerick, could have dealt Clare an early season blow by putting them down to 1b and denying them any momentum, now they're up and going for the runin to the championship. Probably not interested in winning the league but it's been patchy so far, need to be more clinical when goal chances present themselves too, the inside forward boys need to work on that.

Yep I agree. Had a chance to knock the stuffing out of them but they knocked it out of us! Galway Saturday night I'd expect a bigger performance from us.

I don't think JK will be overly concerned with the defeat but will be disappointed with some of the fringe player not really put their hands up for selection come championship. Some positives - Gillane won't alot of possession and looked dangerous, the finishing will come as season progresses, SOB started well and should get sharper with more game time, B Nash was Limerick best player, CON played well in patches and similar to SOB will get sharper with more games. JK learnt more from Sunday than an easy win if Clare didn't come to the table. Some of the fringe players have abit to go yet.

Would love to see Barry Nash at half back. With Barry Murphy putting up his hand in the corner it means we have another option in the full back line. Should Hayes be available to play with Nash one side and with Byrnes looking like he might be returning to form I think we would look solid enough.

Lynch looks more suited to centre field and seems to be more involved.

Upfront it looks like O'Neill might get in ahead of Tom Morrissey.

Not sure what Peter Caseys form will be like after so long out. Maybe English could carry out his corner forward role roaming around the middle and half forward line.

Gillane and O'Brien inside as a two hopefully works out. A few times Sunday they both made the same runs.

Still 7 weeks from championship so plenty time to sharpen up.

id agree we probably learned more from Sunday than if Clare didnt turn up.

With everyone fit we have an abundance of excellent midfielders which means having to move or drop 3 of Lynch, WO'D, DO'D, English and CO'N.

I think English will go forward but the rest I don't have a clue. CO'N could go either direction and WO'D could go back again. God knows when we see Darragh again.

DOD is a big loss in the midfield. Has a mix of ball winning ability and good delivery in the forwards. Was badly missed last season. While CON and A English are very talented they are different type of players and don't suit the Limk game plan as much in midfield i.e coming out of rucks with possession and quick delivery into Gillane, Flanagan etc.

No, AFAIK DOD is training but has had little or no game time in last 18 months so will take some time to get back to the required level. Hopefully will see him in the next few league games.

Didnt JK say last week there was little or no injuries, everyone was healthy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,526 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

I presumed that he either opted out or was injured from the previous post.

Gillane is a fantastic player. There is definately an issue with his finishing at times. He's got no speed so doesn't trust himself to keep running in and strikes earlier. His one handed pull after the brilliant catch was a poor effort . If he had aimed anyway downwards it was a definite goal. The second turn and go..was a bad one. He had to pass that to an open Flanagan. Flanagan would have put it on a plate for him if the positions were reversed. He wasn't sharp on Sunday yet still won a tonne of ball.

Shane O Brien is just no goal threat..again great point scorer but his shot was pretty tame..like really poor. Again pace is his issue..O Dalaigh and I am biased here would have buried that

That's Clares issue over the last few years in my opinion. They definitely do need to stand up to Limerick but they are always trying it on with Hegarty, Hayes and O Donoghue..3 naturally big and aggressive men and they ultimately lose .I think Clare will do well this year even without SOD but there is no advantage in mixing it with Hegarty or Hayes come Championship. Just play

Darragh was in flying form for Doon during the club championship so I'd say he's over the injury issues he had last year.

Needed to take our goal chances first half. O'Brien could have had one plus a penalty, Gillane could have had a couple.

Overall happy. Tighten up on our efficiency and we win that at a canter.

Morrissey, O'Donoghue, Hayes and Hegarty to come back in too. Stokes, Morrissey and Flanagan didnt look up to it and wouldnt see any of the 3 starting in April as it stands. Casey struggled at 3 a little and shows how important Morrissey is there but is good cover.

I still think Clare will struggle. That was a big effort from them and had we been as clinical as we could be it should have been game over early. They only made 1 real substitution of note, the final two happened basically in injury time. 3 subs in a league match? Show they really needed the win.

Right now, I would say Morrissey, Nash, Byrnes, Hayes, O'Donoghue, Lynch, English, Hegarty, O'Neill, Gillane, O'Brien, maybe Reidy will all start. 1 of Dowling/Gillane in goals, 1 of Finn/Casey/Murphy in FB line, 1 of Coughlan/Hannon HB, with Flanagan, Casey, O'Donovan, O'Dalaigh, Morrissey, O'Connor, O'Donovan to be in backup, but O'Connor has done very well and could push to start.

Peter Casey won't be cover if he is fit. He is easily the best at our version of the 15 position.

People are writing Tom Morrissey off a bit too soon as well. He is just back from an extended holiday and he will be ready come championship.

We know by now Kiely doesn't do radical change based on the league. English and CO'N have taken ages to break in and they are far more naturally gifted than any new lads we have seen this year.

Nice to see Finn, Hayes, and WOD back. Nash at 7. Bar Hayes I think Nash is probably the next best for that position especially in an attacking sense.

Though come championship I think Nash and Hayes will go back to their regular positions. But it's good to try these things out to give us options and gives Murphy more minutes also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,514 ✭✭✭moby2101

still no sign of DOD worryingly.

Strong team and a decent bench, hood to see WOD back also

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 302 ✭✭Iecrawfc

Happy with Nash in the half back line, means he can get up the field even more, hes a scoring threat too from long range. Just hope Finn and/or Casey are fit enough to cover fb line, Murphy is doing well so far and could retain his place for champ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,057 ✭✭✭einn32

I would have expected to see DOD by now. Definitely our strongest midfield partnership is DOD and WOD.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,177 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Yeah that's why I wanted to see him tried there especially in the league. Outside of Hayes he's our next best attacking threat at 7.

Yeah Murphy is playing well since moving to the full back line and if he does manage to keep his place come championship then fair play to him.

Especially if DOD is back as I think Kiely could use WOD at 6 with DOD and Lynch in midfield with Nash and Hayes back on the left hand side of defence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,226 ✭✭✭PeggyShippen

Mike Casey is looking more like a liability than an asset. He's going to get properly roasted soon. I dont see him starting champions, great sub though.

Hayes will be centre back I think. O Donoghue is too important midfield but either one is a better option than Hannon and that's no criticism of the great Hannon. As things stand I don't see Flanagan starting, Morrissey always comes good at the right time but again I feel like he's gone to the well once too often ..might not make it this year.

Like iv said before the 'bull' ( embarrassing description ) O Brien is hugely over rated. Conor Leen stood him up fairly easily and again zero goal threat. He's a big skillfull guy ..great hands but on his best outing he's a 3 point a game man.

As a Clare man ..I think we ll get out of Munster but no better. I see Limerick struggling this year and Cork beating them again (Cork have Limericks number in my opinion) but ultimately making the top 3 and Limerick in Croke Park really blossom. No All Ireland for Clare or Limerick this year.

My half back line would be Nash, Hayes at 6 and Cathal O Neill. Second option bring WOD back to 6 like in 2023 and bring O Neill into the half forwards. WOD to do a Conlon on Barrett in the Cork game.

if you talk to most people in this my of the woods , they will all tell you byrnes is a total gentleman off the field , it might not look good last week on camera in slow motion but , it was never his style to kick a man in the head , he has fronted up to many a clare player or whoever but he's not a dirty player in that sense , if he is to be remembered for anything last sunday it should be the point he scored 5 minutes previous
