    Shamrock Rovers 5-0 Limerick

Another swift and heavy defeat for Limerick tonight.

I wasn't at this, so maybe somebody who was will be able to give more details. From the updates, it looked bleak as usual. We were 1-0 down after 2 minutes, 3-0 after 20, and 4-0 by halftime. We conceded another on the hour to finish the scoring.

With an 11-point gap to Sligo above us, and 9 to Bray below us, we are certs for the relegation playoff.

Tonight, UCD sealed the First Division title. That leaves Finn Harps and Shelbourne filling 2 of the 3 playoff places, and the 4th is between Drogheda and Longford. 4th will play 3rd, the winner of that game will play 2nd, and the winner of that game will play 9th in the premier, which will be us.

Hopefully Tommy Barrett will be sending somebody to watch those games and make some notes on our potential opposition.

Next game: away to Bray Wanderers, Friday Sept 21st, 7.45pm.

Is it automatic relegation for the bottom two now?

Nope play off for the team that finishes second last. But this year it's changed so that the premier team plays their home game in the second leg I think. So no possible repeat of having to travel to Ballybofey again for the decisive game and getting relegated up their again.

So The Playoff Series is looking like:

    Shels Vs Drogs

Finn Harps vs Winner of Shels / Drogs

Limerick vs Winner of Finn Harps / Winner of Shels Vs Drogs

So basically it will be Limerick vs Finn Harps again

Except this time they'll be relegated at home.

    Bray 0-2 Limerick

    (Maguire, Ellis)

Fairly comfortable win against a woeful Bray team, which ends any lingering hopes they may have had of avoiding automatic relegation.

We were easily the better team in the first half, free to pass the ball around and looking dangerous in attack. We took the lead when Barry Maguire tapped home after good work by Ellis, Coleman, and then Duggan to keep the ball alive and set up a chance. We missed a few decent chances to score again, but eventually did 2 minutes before halftime. O Sullivan did brilliantly to work space for a cross, and when it broke in the box, Ellis reacted fastest to poke it home

We slowed down a lot in the second half, and Bray got back into the game a bit. But they could still be playing and they wouldn't score. We also missed a few chances ourselves.

Next game: home to Derry, Friday October 5th, 7.45pm.

Well at least that's one team we can beat in the Discover Ireland league next season :(

The club reminds me of the last words In Battlestar Galactica
"All of this has happened before"

It's the same cycle with football in the country

Well. At least the pitch looks well. All that money the club had to spend to play here we'll get our last 3 games on a good surface at least!

    Limerick 0-1 Derry

We were unable to trouble Derry tonight.

The first half as fairly low-key stuff. I don't think we had a shot on target in the entire half, and Derry were fairly relaxed as well. They had already got in behind us once or twice, and eventually it was once too many, as they beat the offside and their striker slid the ball under the advancing Tommy Holland. Our best chance of the half was probably when Karl O'Sullivan dispossessed a defender to go in on goal from a wide angle, but his cross-shot was well wide.

In the second Derry were content to let us keep the ball and play in front of them, and we showed just how limited we are. A stretching O'Sullivan skewed over an affort at the far post after a cross was glanced on, and Shane Tracy forced the keeper into a diving save from a free-kick outside the box, but apart from that I don't think we forced him into another save, and the game petered out.

Only one home league game left this season, which is St. Pats in 2 weeks, but we will have a home playoff game on Nov 2nd.

Next game: away to Cork, Friday October 12th, 7.45pm.

Graham Kelly is a pure shìtbag of a ref, Nicky Low must of had 4 or 5 talkings before Kelly booked him when others got booked after one silly foul and shìt the bed when he took Willy Fitz and left play go on.

Barry Maguire has some lovely touches, was wasted playing as the striker given he can't move and was missed from midfield. Could see the difference he made in certain attacks when the young lads Fitz and KO'S went on the attack keeping them going with one twos or clever first time passes/flicks. The two young lads are something else, says a lot when your two biggest attacking threats are 18/19 which baffled me and probably Shaun Kelly unless he had his hands on his head catching his breath when O'Sullivan was taken off.

    Cork 3-0 Limerick

I wasn't able to make this one myself, but it seemed like a routine win for Cork.

We were 1 down within 2 minutes, and they scored again early in the second half, and then got another right at the end.

3 yellow cards as well, which bothers me as much as the result, because we want to make sure we will not have any suspensions for the playoff.

Next game: home to St. Pats, Friday October 19th, 7.45pm.

That's the last home league game of the season, although we will be at home to the winners of the 2-legged playoff between Drogheda and Finn Harps. They played the first leg tonight, and that was a 1-1 draw in Drogheda.

Any idea what the team line up was seeing as those in the club couldn't give a toss about posting updates.

As for the suspensions you hope whoever is one away from a suspension takes one for the team and gets a yellow and serves their suspension for Waterford and go into the play off on a clean slate.

Yeah, if the players are not getting paid, you can be sure lads like him haven't been paid for a while longer.

    Limerick 0-4 St. Pats

A ridiculously easy win for Saint Pat's against a woeful Limerick tonight.

They took the lead after 10 minutes. A corner was headed against the crossbar and they were 1st to slam home the rebound. 10 minutes later it was 2-0. A ball over the top caught out the defence and they fired the ball across the goal where it was bundled over the line. Our only chance of the first half was from a good Karl O'Sullivan run and cross which Danny Morrissey glanced just wide.

Any hopes of a comeback were killed off just a couple of minutes into the second half, when our keeper calamitously allowed a back pass to run under his foot and over the line. And they scored another just a couple of minutes after that with a fine finish off the post after a quick attack. They could have had a few more goals. They hit the post a couple of times and the keeper had to make a couple of saves as well. We offered next to nothing in attack and never really troubled their goalkeeper.

The other important piece of news is that tonight Finn Harps beat Drogheda 2-0, which means that we will play Finn Harps in the relegation promotion play-off. Another long trip to Donegal.

Next game: away to Waterford, Friday October 26th, 7.45pm

    Playoff schedule:
Away to Finn Harps on Monday October 29th, 7.45pm

Home to Finn Harps on Friday November 2nd, 7.45pm.

Any guess at the attendance, saw somebody tweet a pic and looked like there was probably 100 people in the stand.

Revenue has filed a winding up petition in the High Court against the company behind Limerick FC

This winding up order has conveniently been adjourned for 3 weeks, by which time Limerick FC will have finished their season.

Will feel sorry for Harps if somehow they lose the play off and Bray remain in the premier after we are wound up and dissolved.

8 days out from the home leg, Limerick should really be promoting the bejesus out of it.
Should be getting onto a lot of schoolboy clubs now talking about getting their kids into the game, and it's something they should've done earlier in the season too for small games e.g. Cabinteely, both Bray games.
Nobody from outside would bat an eyelid at some comped tickets all in the sake of making an ugly crowd a bit prettier.

Highlights from 2 recent games. FAI stopped uploading the games on to youtube for some reason, so our win away to Bray and loss away to Cork are still missing.

    Waterford 4-1 Limerick

    (Walsh-O'Loghlen)

Limerick ended their league campaign with a predictable loss in Waterford. I wasn't there as I'm saving myself for the long trip to Donegal, so was just going on updates.

We went behind to a penalty after just 2 minutes, but equalised 10 minutes later.

Almost immediately we were behind again, and it was 3-1 20 minutes into the second half, and 4-1 10 minutes later.

The line-up was a second-string set of players for the most part, so hopefully our first choice 11 are rested and ready for the game on Monday night. The playoff is all that matters.

    Playoff details:

1st leg is away to Finn Harps, Monday October 29th, 7.45pm.

2nd leg is home to Finn Harps, Friday November 2nd, 7.45pm.
