Just home from 3 weeks in sunny south of spain today and getting off the plane we were greeted to a very pleasant temperature at 12:30, it made the waving goodbye to spain for another while all the easier :)

Phoenix Park got to "almost 28 degrees" today, according to the 17:59 Radio 1 bulletin from Glasnevin. So somewhere between 27.5 and 27.9.

Here are the max synops for today.

    27.3 - Casement (highest hourly dewpoint 18.7)
26.7 - Dublin Airport (highest hourly dewpoint 18.8)
26.1 - Oak Park (highest hourly dewpoint 19.3).

The wind at Casement at its warmest hours was around 230 ° (SW), so not much chance of any Föhn heating. The highest dewpoints were all reported before lunch, earlier than the highest temperatures, and dewpoints are now down to around 15-16 at these stations.

Phoenix Park hit 27.7 today (Met Éireann Tweet).

Continuation of the graph I posted yesterday but this one is now on number of days with 20c or more at Carlow (Oak Park) for every year since records began in 1967. If you did not see yesterday's post, I said that the station closed in 1997 and became automatic in 2003 thus why the gap between 1996 and 2004 on the graph. Carlow (Oak Park) does not have a full year data for 1967 and 1969 so them years are not complete but the rest are. 1995 is on top again but interestingly, 1975 is in second place!

I added a 5 year running average just for fun on the graph.

2018 has had 52 such days up to July 23rd which is already more than the majority of Summers. Up to 30th June, the station had 31 such days including 11 in May and 20 in June which I think are new records for their respective months at the station.

    kxG9Lzu.png

Top 5 years with most 20c or more days at Carlow (Oak Park)

    Rank|Year|No. of days
    1.|1995|85 days
    2.|1975|77 days
    3.|1989|68 days
    4.|1984|66 days
    5.|1976/2013|62 days

    Data comes from Met Éireann.

Only 17c and light rain in Sligo today

Markree got to 25c yesterday and Sligo 24.4c

    Not much burn off today

Re Oak Park youd imagine that all the rest of July will be warm so will get >20c most days too

yep been looking at that today. Next week has the potential to bring some high temperatures if we can keep the Atlantic fronts off our shores.

Tomorrow will feel much fresher particularly in the east with temperatures well down on today and yesterday. Warm on Wednesday and mid 20's again by Thursday then a much cooler weekend.

The following week could be interesting if the high pressure reloads over us again.

Even though we need rain,a warm sunny bank holiday weekend is what I'm hoping for.
I've sweated more than it's rained down my way.

GFS, ECM and CMC in agreement on high pressure retrograding towards us through early August.

we may have lost the warm temperatures for today, but it is still a decent morning here, plenty of sunshine.

Tomorrow and Thursday look very promising for another short blast of heat, could get up to 24C here tomorrow and 27C on Thursday. Big cooldown for the weekend and early part of next week. Fingers crossed that the high rebuilds in time for the bank holiday weekend.

Still felt really warm here today, kicked about a football at lunch time and was sweating within a couple of minutes. Low to mid 20's again tomorrow then high 20's on Thursday, wasn't expecting this week to be anywhere near as nice as its turned out

Got a low RH of 59% giving great visibility.

Currently 16.9C sunny with a RH of 66%

Enjoyed my lunch looking over the mouth of Dingle Harbour today.

Nice evening here in Castlebar, nice clear skies. Moon beginning to rise in the SE.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭Xenji

July has been slightly above average as regards temperatures in Castlebar, since the 9th of July we have had just one day that has broken 20C and for the first 24 days of July we have had just six days that topped 20C, five of which occurred in the first week of July.

Rainfall has been 36.4mm which by the end of the month will only be about half our July average.

Even with the drought conditions from June/July we actually have had just 24mm less rainfall in the first 7 months of the year than we had at this time last year with 805mm recorded.
