Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I haven't been this excited since I bet a schoolmate a can of 7-UP that Neil Shipperley would score in a Chelsea - Man City match back when they were both crap.

Still it's the best match thread in months.

Did you get to enjoy the sweet tang of Lemon-Lime?

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

    Nope

Actually dug the game up, think it was played in front of three thousand in freezing fog too. Darke was probably commentating too. Those were the days

Why are there so few fans there. I thought these two were rivals. Although I've never understood why a London club would be rivals with a team from a town fifty miles away? Surely they've plenty of neighbours to hate

Google "Terry Venables and Alan Mullery" to get the history of it.

Thanks, lads. Although slightly disappointed it was nothing to do with mods and rockers on Vespas and motorbikes

So, will VAR be used in the return leg if this ends as it is?

    <edit> nevermind... goal.

Glenn Murray with shades of FIFA 98 by effectively running the ball into the net.

    Nothing is happening!

The VAR checked many incidents, but never needed to intervene.

    And at Boavista......

    https://twitter.com/illiquidswords/status/961027170150813697/video/1

It is in use in the Dutch cup(s) for a couple of seasons now and in the play offs last season.

I am not a fan. I get the feeling that the guys at the tv are a bit too eager to over rule the ref on the pitch to proof they have something to add.

Latest example of that was last week in the cup where Roda thought they went 3-2 but the videoref thought otherwise.
The only clip i can find is iembedded in this article

It is all about the very first ball contact in that clip.
Hands by a roda player, loses the ball, willem II player gets it and loses it too.
Goal is disallowed because of that handball.
The night before Feyenoord scored the 2-0 from a corner that looked at best dubious. Still not convinced it wasnt a corner but i wouldn't have thought they were screwed if it had been giving a goal kick straight on.
However, those situations will not be part of video refereeing.

    It is a bit messy.
I am all for goal line technology but the videoref..... not so much.
