This is a bit like Mozart’s ‘Requiem’.

    Not really.

Can’t help but feel Our Cilla was riding on the moptops coattails somewhat.

So far, she’s covered ‘Norwegian Wood’, ‘Imagine’ and ‘If I Fell’!

Cilla Black had two Hit goldmines, songs the Beatles gave her and songs she stole from Dionne Warwick
‘Sometimes there are good reasons why a recording of the same song by different artists is an honest coincidence; other times, there is something a bit sinister about the way it’s done,’ she wrote. ‘Anyone Who Had A Heart, for example, was just flat out copied — note for note, word for word, and not very well, I might add — by the white British pop singer Cilla Black (whose real name is Cilla White; go figure).

Also, Cilla Black is regularly named as the nastiest person Airline Cabin Crew have ever encountered

That's the problem with Bowie, his immense vocal talent meant his axe-wielding skills got overlooked...

    Just like Bono
    :pac:

Imagine getting your album produced by Nile Rodgers...

"Actually Nile, I thought I'd play guitar on that track myself..."

"WHAAAAAT? IT'S IN THE CONTRACT MAAN! NILE GOTTA PLAY!!"

this show about bass with tina weymouth is very good

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,031 ✭✭✭nomdeboardie

Just catching that "Guitar, Drum and Bass: On Bass – Tina Weymouth (BBC4)" now (assuming its a repeat) - missed the first ~10 mins, but quite ear-opening for me - probably haven't thought much consciously about what's going on at the lower frequencies :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 639 ✭✭✭smurf492

Thought the first part of the boomtown rats doc was very good... Pity RTE wouldn't put more money in to shows like this but saying that no doubt part two will be a fluff piece about geldof...

Just watching it now, very enjoyable lots of decent contributors and some class archive stuff. Yeah, a bit of investment into similar docs commissioned by RTE would be welcome

That story about Mercury Records posting out actual dead rats to radio stations to plug the record :eek:

The man behind that stunt writes about it here, he remains proud of his idea

I thought what killed the Rats in the US was that Geldof turned up to an awards thing with all the big record company and radio execs in attendance and gave a speech insulting everyone when coked off his tits.

So there I was just the other day, walking down the street with a spring in me step, when I thought...

When oh when, will there be a Slipknot documentary on BBC Four on a Friday night?

    Ah well *sigh*

  • Registered Users Posts: 34,940 ✭✭✭✭Hotblack Desiato

Edie Brickell was a fine thing back in the day.

Inspired by TOTP I did the "so whatever happened to her?" thing the other day - she only went and married bloody Paul Simon in 1992!!! he was twice her age  feckin' boomers he's actually too old to be a baby boomer.

The showbands doc is highly recommended in a "wt actual f?" kind of way.

Under the current circumstances, this seems appropriate:

    Nice one Skid, as always.

There are a few things there that look very interesting. I have it on good authority that the ZZ Top yoke, which is on Netflix as of last week, is "bleedin deadly".

And I'd forgotten about the SRV book mentioned in that article. Gonna order it now.
