There you are, brief controversy this week when BBC1 appeared to have dropped the Christmas TOTP shows but then reinstated them. Good news for the few people who watch them

Good yarn here about Ronnie Drew's visit to Dublin Zoo

If you missed that Busted thing on ITV last week here it is and let us never mention it again

Sad news just in about the death of Diego Maradona. Here is his warm up dance to the Opus 3 song Life is Live, which is Art in it's finest form

Random bit from Nile Rodgers' Autobiography this week comes from page 179. Nile sees Bowie for the first time in the Continental Nightclub late in New York. Eventually Nile plucks up the courage to introduce himself but he is almost scuppered by a worse for wear Billy Idol who gratecrashes the meeting smelling of sick. Eventually Nile and Bowie get talking. Nile is blown away by Bowie's knowledge of Jazz. Bowie explains "Nile, I grew up in England where we have BBC Radio. They played everything that was popular - Soul, Blues, Jazz, R&B and Rock. We don't separate the music on the radio by race or genres".

And finally, the Best analysis of the problems the Spice Girls might encounter post Pop if they started work in the Building Trade might be this one, as featured in Harry Enfield's Yule Chums (Sunday Night 2.15am GOLD)

It got worse - even the respected thrash metal band Testament did a ballad after pressure from their record company. A terrible stain on rock/metal.

Guns'n'Roses could actually do it with integrity but the copies were shameless.

So they weren't live in Belfast that night - lies :pac:. As I posted a few weeks ago they turned up late for their gig in the the Top Hat, Dublin as they were recording this TOTP show.

But I did get to see a great FNM gig a few hours after this was recorded.

I remember an angry letter to either Metal Hammer or Kerrang in early 1990 about how "funk has no place in metal" and singling out FNM, RHCP etc. Very shortly before this.

Just watched the ‘Belushi’ documentary - excellent, especially the animated sequences. :)

Lots if great footage I had never seen before (John playing drums with The Dead Boys at CBGB’s), although we’re still waiting to see the ultimate lost Belushi performance...

He performed a ‘special celebrity guest death’ for the title sequence of the TV Series ‘Police Squad!’ However, he died before the show aired so the sequence was never used.

On the streets of Coronation Street, he encounters a brass band playing the music that has announced the start of each episode since it began. Following the trail of the soap opera world, Neil meets composer Simon May, creator of the EastEnders theme tune, and travels to the US to talk with Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons, to uncover how its orchestrated theme music is a homage to classic TV of the past. She finds an ally in an ambitious songwriter, but her return to the top is made difficult by tensions with her husband and manager and her own struggle to stay on the wagon. Drama, starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim McGraw and Garrett Hedlund. IMDB reviews are surprisingly good. There are a lot of 10/10 posts while Jgregg42 says the film has “both kinds of music – Country And Western … If you are a casual listener, there might not be enough to hold your attention. It did give a great view of what goes on behind the scenes of the music industry. The performances and singing by the cast were amazing (McGraw, the only real country music singer in the film, doesn't sing a single note)”. That would be like if Michael Caine and Sylvester Stallone had done all the football action themselves in Escape To Victory.

12.45am Bee Gees In Our Own Time (Sky Arts)

That's about that. do let us know what else is going on if you see anything else listed

On Monday Fontaines DC get a 30 minute slot on MTV Music at 11.30pm

Other Voices live starts tonight on Youtube and continues for the rest of the week https://www.othervoices.ie/content/latest. It is also broadcast on rte.ie tonight at 7pm (although if you can get anything on RTE to stream properly then you should buy a lotto ticket)

There was a 30 minute show about Larry Gogan during the week on RTE1, you can stream it here (in Irish) https://www.rte.ie/player/movie/cloch-le-carn-larry-gogan-e3/164872232015

From 1968, Terry Wogan's column in the RTE Guide looks at Joe Cocker's recent success with his Beatles Cover - and tells Showbands that they need to similarly bring something to their Cover Versions if they want to shift more units. All that, and you can find out when the Prescotts' Cleaners and Dyers Music Show is on (It was on the Radio at 1pm on Friday, presented by Gay Byrne)

    https://www.facebook.com/RTE-GUIDE-Classic-Issues-1822225651339050/photos/pcb.2969661869928750/2969661789928758

And finally, the Best Theme Tune By The Darkness For A Kids Show Where All Sorts Of Machines Are Rated might be in Grace's Amazing Machines (RTE2 Weekdays 9.25am. CBeebies Weekdays around 4pm)

This might be the best thing on Television, Grace and her little robot sidekick drive three machines each week (maybe a hovercraft, a Rallycar and a JCB) and then picks her favourite. It's the show Top Gear should have been

The show was originally called Catie's Amazing Machines, but Catie left and was replaced by Grace. The Darkness did both theme tunes. Lovely stuff.

Yeah, I usually enjoy Neil Brands documentaries. Hope he mentions Hawaii 5-O. For my money probably the best TV theme tune ever.
