It's about his life in New York

    Doesn't seem to be repeated

How do? The dog days before the Christmas schedules properly kick in are a boom time for repeats, and that's what we get this week. There are a few other bits and bobs there too ...

    Thursday
11pm A Fanatic Heart – Geldof On Yeats (Sky Arts)
The musician and campaigner examines the life and work of poet WB Yeats, arguing that he was a key figure in a cultural revolution and that his writing played a major role in Ireland's struggle for independence. Featuring readings of Yeats' verse by Bill Nighy, Van Morrison, Colin Farrell, Bono, Edna O'Brien, Ardal O'Hanlon, Noel Gallagher and Liam Neeson. A review on tvguide.co.uk from Dave says “I was very much looking forward to this, but Geldof is such an irritating man that I gave up after 10 minute”. Thanks, Dave.

9pm The Sound Of TV With Neil Brand (BBC4)
Ep 2 With the advent of commercial television in the UK, ITV rivalled the BBC for airtime and lured viewers in with the new language of advertisements. However, these had not yet reached the impact they had seen in the USA, the home of the TV jingle, where a 30-second tune could make or break a brand, as seen in the competing fortunes of Coca-Cola and Pepsi. Neil reveals the lasting musical power of jingles, idents and advertisements, including the long-forgotten test card tunes sampled in American hip-hop

There you are, the drummer from The Flaming Lips talking about Welsh Music on S4C was unexpected, and if that is your thing you might also like Mastermind Cymru where someone has Miles Davis as his/her specialised subject. In Welsh. (tonight at 9pm with several repeats).

New to the Internet this week is a very long defence and celebration of James Paul McCartney. Worth a look if that is your thing https://ianleslie.substack.com/p/64-reasons-to-celebrate-paul-mccartney

Alternatively, here is a 25 minute Travelling Wilburys Doc recently uploaded to their channel. Features lots of original interviews and clippage

Finally, there is a chance to see Mick Hucknall singing Ding Dong Merrily On High on Knowing Me, Knowing Yule (GOLD Friday Night 12.20am) but nobody wants to see that so instead here is Alan Partridge punching people with a Turkey Fist from the same show. Mick Hucknall has been edited out.

Far be it for me to doubt the great one and master of the listings himself, but surely Sky Arts aren't showing two different shows at the same time?

This is surprisingly good if you ignore some of the contributors recitals - eye's turn to Bono and Colin Farrell who got the easy tonight thank god it's them instead of you lines.

    :pac:

The amount of stuff in the BBC archives they can never show again... Savile, Rolf Harris, Stuart Hall...

Maybe Not The Nine O'Clock News had the right idea about that dodgy Aussie lad though

A while back a BBC4 repeat of an early 70s TOTP meant the BBC had to pay royalties to Gary Glitter.

9pm Queen and Adam Lambert - The Show Must Go On (Sky Arts)
Queen try to persuade you that they aren’t just milking it

Seems every weekend is Queen Weekend on Sky Arts.

9pm The Bee Gees – How Can You Mend A Broken Heart? (Sky Documentaries)

Unsuccessfully in the case of Andy and Maurice...

There you are, the drummer from The Flaming Lips talking about Welsh Music on S4C was unexpected

    What's not to like

The Dublin Airport cap is damaging the economy of Ireland as a whole, and must be scrapped forthwith.
