Just watched Julian Temple’s documentary about Shane MacGowan, ‘Crock Of Gold’.

Good stuff, although I genuinely cringed at Johnny Depp’s continuous attempts to align himself with ‘rogues’ (Shane, Keef, Hunter S. Thompson)

Got dust in my eyes when Miggledy presented him with the award at the NCH :(:)

Waiting for a copy. Apparently I'm in it for a minute or two

You are indeed! It's the same scene that you were in for a previous doc, along with your brother. ;) To be honest, I was very disappointed with it, but I seem to be in a minority.... :o

How's BM? I knew that clip was in it. Was it the whole song or just a bit?

I was down home at the weekend and the brother was expecting his copy Friday but it never came. I brought the laptop to save me the bother of backing my own one up when it comes.

I ended up watching the LLS "Country" special with my mother who thinks the sun shines out of Tubbs's ar$e. She thinks he's much nicer to women than GB or PK were. He'll make president yet.

I haven't your phone number. send me a text if you still have mine. or PM. We'll have a chat over xmas

Open University late at night and early morning was an amazing idea which really democratized education - people who didn't have money or free time during the day could still achieve higher education and reach their potential. Harold Wilson might have been an aul eejit imho but that initiative stands to him. Kipper ties and black and white Maths 101 lectures and all :)

I know a few weird, specialised facts from coming in drunk and turning on the TV to Open University...

Like the guy from CIE explaining that the number of people travelling by trains between cities was inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.

Wait what.. CIE on Open Uni

That's almost that, there should be some Christmas Listings appearing here around Sunday or Monday hopefully

Just time to mention that BBC4 are showing a repeat of the Stella Street Christmas Special on Sunday at 9.30pm as a tribute to John Sessions who died recently. Best Keith Richards ever.

    Nice one, Skid.

I feel obliged to watch Paul talking to Idris, but to be honest I don't really want to.

I mean, I've heard Paul in a lot of interviews over the years. A lot. If there's anything new for him to say, I suspect an actual interviewer might be the one to get him to say it.

Great update this week Skid - Nicko McBrain and Sooty and Sweep, hehe. I actually might get some long play VHS to record the Beethoven marathon as I've been listening to more afternoon EBU concerts on Lyric FM than is healthy the past few months.

Something that was not on my radar recently was a Frank Zappa documentary released a few weeks ago which I'm watching at the moment through nefarious means which may be of interest here.

    Excellent!

The Dublin Airport cap is damaging the economy of Ireland as a whole, and must be scrapped forthwith.

    "A film by Alex Winter"

    Excellent!

Surprisingly well made and directed. What's annoying is his missing out on the digital revolution and dying at 52. I saw Dweezil a couple of years ago in Vicar St playing his fathers music which is as close as I will get, but it was most excellent.

Edit: And that's a phone recording

Cheers, that Zappa one is new to me, looks decent

Ludwig knew how to deal with his critics, he would have been 250 this week

    Schedule change:

A tribute to Charley Pride at 11.40pm tonight on BBC4
It replaces Carole King and friends, which can be seen on Wednesday

    11.40pm Charley Pride - I'm Just Me
The improbable journey of Charley Pride, from his humble beginnings as a sharecropper's son on a cotton farm in segregated Sledge, Mississippi, to his career as a black American League baseball player and his meteoric rise as a trailblazing country music superstar. Pride arrived in Nashville in 1963 with the city embroiled in sit-ins and racial violence. With boldness, perseverance and undeniable musical talent, he managed to parlay a series of fortuitous encounters with music industry insiders into a legacy of hit singles, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a place in the Country Music Hall of Fame. Narrated by Tanya Tucker
