‘TOTP 1982 Big Hits’ on BBC2 right now :)

‘The Lexicon Of Love’ - the greatest pop album of all time.

There, I said it. Come at me, keyboard warriors!

Why do you say it's under rated...?

When do you ever hear or see it? Its presence is understated lets put it that way. I think Maria has a great voice even if the music isn't everyone's cup of char

When ‘Reeling In The Years’ get to 2021, they’ll cover the time 30-year old episodes of TOTP were cancelled to make way for snooker.

I am surprised the BBC have not revived 'The Rock n Roll Years', the show which RTE ripped off for RITY

They made shows for every year from 1966-89, but nothing since then (the 1989 one was broadcast in 1994)

Repeats of the old ones would go nicely on BBC4, unless there are some rights issues.

Hello, some of the programmes below may or may not be shown over the next few days depending on Snooker, significant deaths and deveral other possibilities. I am confident that TOTP on BBC4 won’t be cancelled this weekend, as it is not scheduled. Elsewhere the main new attraction might be the continued new episodes of Classic Albums on Sky Arts, Jazz on BBC4 or Mayo Night on TG4 …

    Thursday
    11pm Other Voices (RTE2)
Highlights from Other Voices Cardigan 2021 in Wales, featuring performances including grime artist Juice Menace, post-punk-poet Sinead O'Brien, the hotly tipped rapper BERWYN, electro pop-star Ani Glass and celtic music pioneers Aoife Ní Bhriain and Catrin Finch

    Friday
7pm BBC Young Musician Of The Year 2020 (BBC4)
Semi Final. You get this instead of TOTP.

7pm The Great Songwriters – Barry Gibb (Sky Arts)

    All new

9pm Classic Albums: Soul II Soul - Club Classics Volume 1 (Sky Arts)
    So is this

10pm Ronnie’s: Ronnie Scott And His World Famous Jazz Club (BBC4)
The history of Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, eponymously named after the late tenor saxophonist who founded the establishment with business partner Pete King. It opened in London's Soho in October 1959, inspired by the vibrant post-war jazz venues in New York. Since then, Ronnie's has consistently played host to many of the world's greatest jazz legends, including Chet Baker, Count Basie, Miles Davies, Ella Fitzgerald, Buddy Rich and Nina Simone who are all featured in the film. Contributors include Ronnie's friends, family and the music elite, including Chris Blackwell, Quincy Jones and Sonny Rollins. This is in the danger slot if the Snooker runs over again.

10pm The Great Songwriters: Kelly Jones (Sky Arts)
    Him out of the Sterephonics

10.50pm Mr Dynamite – The Rise Of James Brown (Sky Documentaries)

11pm Isle Of Wight Festival Greatest Hits (Sky Arts)

    11.30pm Kylie – 30 Years Of Hits (Channel 5)

11.45pm Jazz 625 Live - For One Night Only (BBC4)
A repeat of the one-off revival of the iconic 1960s music show. Broadcasting live from Cheltenham during the Jazz Festival, the special show will feature a house band - led by pianist Robert Mitchell - with special guests including Gregory Porter, Joshua Redman, Jacqui Dankworth and Cleo Laine. Plus, an exclusive recorded performance from Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts in a jazz quartet with saxophonist Scott Hamilton. Presented by Andi Oliver.

    11.45pm Other Voices (RTE2)

10.30pm David Bowie Finding Fame (BBC2 NI, 10pm on the proper BBC2 channels)
The final part of Francis Whately's trilogy of films on Bowie's life, telling the story of the five years when many of the ideas that would help him become an icon were first born. Starting in 1966, soon after David Jones changed his name to David Bowie, the film traces his interest in everything from Holst and Pinky and Perky to Anthony Newley and Tibetan Buddhism, and how he used all of these influences to create not only Ziggy Stardust, but the material for his entire career

10.40pm Queen Live At Wembley 1986 (Sky Arts)

11.30pm Bowie At The BBC (BBC except for BBC2 NI)

I don't think there has ever been greater music since 1950's Bebop. Last time humans made music that good Beethoven was composing. It's better IMO than anything that came out of the 1960's.

I love punk and grunge and ska, but Beethoven's Fifth can't really be beaten.

I do love a bit of Ludvig Van

Also uploaded is this short clip from The Hot Press Music Awards which commenters think was from 1978 in Macroom

Rory Gallagher receives an award while The Sex Pistols and Geldof arse about. This is apparently from a German Documentary about Rory Gallagher, until they upload it if full this is all we have, including the caption for 'Jimmy Rotten'.

Lots of good stuff on that Youtube account

Finally, there's a Doc up above proclaiming him to be a 'great songwriter' but as far as I can remember it doesn't include any footage of his finest hour single handedly almost fighting off wolves in the documentary Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (which isn't on this week, but often pops up on Film4)

If you have space on a VHS this is definitely worth recording even if you are not really into Zappa. They are two of his finest albums - the anecdotes are great and the musicianship is on another level. I got it through different means a few years ago.

I just set the timer for this myself. They were supposed to play last April in The Convention Centre and I'm hoping they re-schedule for next year. He's put an excellent band together and this show seems to be from the Roundhouse (2019) where they played mostly Syd Barrett era Floyd.

And yes that is Gary Kemp playing guitar and providing vocals :pac:
