Hi, Sky Arts has a new New Order doc on Saturday as part of a New Order night, it's about a recent album so no Peter Hook to be seen, probably. They also have the continuing Drumming Doc.

BBC4 has a Dance Music thing which might be good if you are into that. Also the Mercury Music Prize thing, which nobody will remember the winner by the weekend. Some repeats of varying decentness also on offer ...

    Wednesday
    10.30pm Lomax in Éirinn (TG4)

11.10pm The Gloaming at the National Concert Hall (RTE1)

    Thursday
    12pm Soundbreaking (Sky Arts)

7.30pm Don't Look Back In Anger (Virgin Media One)
Ep 1/20 New series. Archive news stories, looking back at the headline stories of the past 20 years, accompanied by the music of the time. Sounds like a Reeling in The Years / Rock and Roll Years clone

9pm Hyundai Mercury Music Prize - Album Of The Year (BBC4)
Annie Mac hosts the annual ceremony to announce the best album of the year, live from the Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith. The 12 shortlisted acts are Lily Allen, Arctic Monkeys, Everything Everything, Everything Is Recorded, Florence and the Machine, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, King Krule, Novelist, Nadine Shah, Jorja Smith, Sons of Kemet and Wolf Alice.

11pm The Art Of Drumming (Sky Arts)

8pm Discovering Music - REM (Sky Arts)

8.30pm Video Killed The Radio Star (Sky Arts)

8.30pm Feile - An Turas Go Tipp [The Trip To Tipp] (RTE1)
Between 1990 and 1994 the town of Thurles was laid siege to by a generation that were starving for an escape from the norm. The Trip to Tipp has gone down in Irish music folklore for all the best reasons. The promoters MCD claimed at the time it was Ireland's answer to Woodstock. In the days of few mobile phones, internet and social media, it created a world of wonderful memories and music for the people who played it, worked it, and indulged. This programme captures some of that magic of the original on the eve of the remake

9pm Kenny Rogers: Cards On The Table (BBC4)
Documentary chronicling Rogers' career and the golden era of country music he helped usher in, reflecting on how he rose to become a superstar selling over 120 million albums worldwide. 10pm Can You Feel It? How Dance Music Conquered The World (BBC4) New!
Ep 1/3 The Beat New series. The story of the dance revolution, following the four-on-the-floor rhythm pattern beat from its disco origins, through remix culture in to house, techno and acid house. The steady, uniformly accented beat was originally used in disco and electronic dance music, but was later adopted by the house genre. The charts are packed with such tunes made or remixed by superstar DJs and the irresistible and relentless groove of the dance floor fills clubs and stadiums. Narrated by Rosalind Eleazar
    https://www.facebook.com/TerryFarleyOfficial/videos/how-dance-music-conquered-the-world-bbc-4/232047060809685/
I don't know much about Dance Music, although I can report that Keith Flint from The Prodigy recently visited Black Tom's in Tinahely Co.WIcklow for a few pints. http://wicklownews.net/2018/09/firestarter-visits-tinahely-and-pulls-pints-for-locals/

11pm Tales From The Tour Bus - Rock n Roll On The Road (BBC4)
Rick Wakeman offers a first-hand account of rockers on the road from the late 1950s onwards, recalling the golden age of touring - a secret history of transport cafes, transit vans, B&Bs, sleepless roadies and loved ones left at home. The musician and tour bus aficionado also reflects on the audiences, both good and bad, and the gigs themselves, from the early variety package to the pubs, clubs and stadiums. With contributions by Suzi Quatro and members of Dr Feelgood, the Shadows, the Pretty Things, Fairport Convention, Happy Mondays, Aswad, Girlschool and the Damned

    11.30pm Guth - Bing Crosby (TG4)
Ep 1/6 The story of popular music and how the families of Irish emigrants changed the genre, beginning with the story of Bing Crosby, whose forebears came from an Irish Catholic background and lived in the city of Spokane in north-west America. He became one of the country's biggest stars in both film and radio, and his voice one of the most recognisable in the world when the United States entered the Second World War

12.15am My View: Clem Burke (Sky Arts)
The Blondie drummer reflects on his career, from his first-ever drum lesson through to touring the world. Featuring contributions by Debbie Harry and Annie Lennox. Repeat from last week

12.30am Music Moguls: Masters Of Pop (BBC4)
Ep 3/3 Myth Makers Leading publicist Alan Edwards narrates this instalment looking at the PR plots that have helped shape some of the world's greatest artists. With the aid of rare archive footage, he explains how he and fellow exponents, such as Barbara Charone and Andy Saunders, cultivate new bands, manage crises and attempt to maintain the reputation of their long-standing clients. This is good, I forgot Michael Lowry was the driving force behind it.

I can't remember the last time I saw him interviewed about something that wasn't Tribunal related.

Great intro by the announcer. It's hard not to love Sky Arts.

And a rare clip of Ginger Baker being pleasant :pac: Very rock focused this episode. The Bill Ward segment was good. Show is now overlapping with the dance one on BBC4. 80's thrash metal and early 90's rave are part of my formative years.

Just watched it back, really good - especially the stuff about the Chicago and Detroit club scenes.

Who can forget the time Smash Hits printed the lyrics to Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley’s ‘Jack Your Body’? :D

And ‘Voodoo Ray’ by A Guy Called Gerald - absolute classic :)

There's a Chrome extension called Windscribe that might get you into the IPlayer. It's a bit hit and miss but it usually works.

I'm not certain if it's safe but I use it occasionally and disable it when I'm not using it.
