We should probably have an MT-USA thread, but this video from the other week certainly brought back memories - like ZZ Top, it seemed to be on MT-USA every week!

That funny shape she's working on is slightly reminiscent of a W-80 thermonuclear warhead (yes, yes I know you were all thinking that.) So maybe a hidden 1980s anti-war message there? I spent most of the 80s sh!tting myself about the inevitable Global Thermonuclear War. (if you get that reference, I hope you don't use Joshua for any of your passwords)

Pity the Jesus And Mary Chain didn’t perform live in the TOTP studio...drown out Chris De Burgh’s performance with a wall of guitar feedback!

    Happy Friday, folks :D

Some line up on the same show all the same.Where would you get that these days?

I miss the old days when I waited with baited breadth to see who would be miming in a studio to their latest "record" (who still uses that word?) and then disecting the "perfomances" and videos next day in school.

If you have Spotify, put on David Byrne's album American Utopia.

Saw him live the other night - what a show. Was anyone else there? First and probably my only time to see him. Just magical. He played a few songs off this album so makes it more the special, I appreciate that. "Everybody's coming to my house" is a great song though.

    where was that, PoT?

Was going to go see him in the NCH a few years back but didn't in the end, heard it was a great show.

3 Arena Dublin Ireland, this Wednesday just gone.

A super "show" and "performance" as opposed to just a gig.

11 Professional musicians backing him up but also participating in the whole "performance" piece.

This will give you an idea of just what went on:

Hah, yes, saw that while getting my daily Colbert fix a while ago :)
Saw him in a small venue in a midwestern American city a couple of decades ago, in 'skinned-man' suit for Psycokiller (him, not me :P), hearing Miss America and Dance on Vaseline etc for the first time

    Bowie on

Jeez he was great. a tinge of sadness watching.

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,444 ✭✭✭✭Skid X

I'll be watching this one again several times ... it's the kind of set you want to ring up people and tell them to switch over now, because you know they would love it but they don't know it's on.

Nowadays, if you were in the crowd, you wouldn’t be able to see the act with all the flags in the way!

Article here about how the Bowie had reluctantly agreed to let BBC2 show a handful of songs from this set, and how the Director had to reluctantly cut to taped coverage of other stuff happening at Worthy Farm while Bowie was pounding through his greatest hits

Great article...the nation needs more Embrace :pac:

Ah, I do like Embrace ... they stormed it in The Academy here a few years ago.

But I think I could confidently state that Embrace themselves would have felt sheepish at having Bowie pulled off air to accommodate their anthemic noodlings.

1am Neil Se#@?a : King Of Song (Sky Arts)
    Nothing to see here

    :D:D:D

Jeez. It's gonna be a long few hours till that thing with Justin Hawkins is on.

Think I'll just watch youtube till then. If only there was some way around this problem.

How is it possible to be on David Byrne's mailing list, and not be aware that he's on tour never mind playing a gig in your own F**king city?

F**ks sake. But if he wanted to tell me about an eco-bike project in Uruguay I'd have heard about it.

    J*A*M*C on TOTP was excellent

I like Psychocandy but imho their best work was Honey's Dead - lead single was slightly controversial at the time for some reasons which appear obscure now

There aren't nearly enough people in the Entertainment Industry doing videos with people Dancing on The Ceiling.

Fred Astaire and Lionel Richie kept that Genre going by themselves.

The Range by Bruce Hornsby, that used to be played when Des or whoever read out the League Tables on Grandstand for years.

"In Canon League Division 2, another draw for Sheffield United keeps their unbeaten run going, now four points behind Manchester City with a game in hand" etc

    Edit - like this
