OK....this is going to be confusing!

Starting a new thread for Storm Fionn (which is not really a storm in the true sense!).

Will leave this for Wednesday nights 'event'....and expected Storm Georgina.

Imagine Met Éireann editing the warning to Wednesday night and you made a new thread.

Why do they bother making two storms if there will be no let up? Why not extend Fionn till Thursday?

More than likely because there is two different fronts approaching. Georgina could still change course, strengthen or weaken.

Tightening of the isobars Fionn will be just a bit more of what's happening now, only tonight with higher gust potential (slightly, they have been hitting 110 km/hr in exposed coastal locations all day).

Not quite sure what to do cyclone Georgina is milling about south of Newfoundland and making quite a presentation on satellite imagery even if the isobars are a bit underwhelming so far.

However, this Fionn business probably tips us off that Georgina will be slamming into an existing strong wind field so she doesn't have to do much work to get wind speeds even higher.

12z GFS coming in a touch further south with snow potential for Ulster as track runs Mayo to Louth. No change in the intensity.

12z RGEM has same basic plot as 06z.

Latest satellite imagery for the North Atlantic.

"Georgina" is just east of Newfoundland on this image (it will update, so check its progress by refreshing this post)

I'm hoping it veers further south. Could end up dragging cold air down over us and heavy precip

12Z ECM The W and SW getting a good rattle initially ,Gusty over land. I was thinking the E coast might get quite strong winds as the Low deepens and exits into the Irish Sea

I have a feeling we may see this upgraded to at least an orange once the graphs become clearer?

When does it look like it will have passed south England? Flying out Thursday afternoon so may only take 10 mins from Dublin to London with a decent tailwind!

GFS18Z has lowered the strength a bit bringing the strongest wind off the S coast , gust 90-100 km/h overland

ICON 18Z has eased a bit too but higher wind speeds then the GFS keeping gusts to 100-110 km/h overland

AROME 18Z a handy model and and fairly accurate showing gusts 100 -120 km/h overland. Looks quite strong as it exits the East coast.

This storm is looking like more of an issue for the southern half of the country. Still uncertainty reigns but lets see what the models deliver tomorrow morning.

Another 100km south potentially brings the northern half of the island a full on blizzard.
