    Hi,

Looking to buy a desktop machine and some advice. Will generally be used for light spreadsheet work, sap accounting software and will be for work use only. Assuming an AMD processor is the recommended route in light of recent events.

Budget is around about 600 to 700 euro ibcudjng screen (looking for reasonably big screen 21" or so).

Have been trawling PC world who's stock of destktops is poor and long delivery time, Harvey Norman the same, so prob will be an online purchase at this stage.

    Appreciate the advice

    Thanks all,

What I am hoping for maybe is an outline of a recommended spec, bearing in mind the price range and use. What sort if processor, ram etc ? Hard disk is not such an issue, it will back up mostly to cloud

For your requirements you don't need much in the CPU department.
However for longevity I'd recommend an i5 or equivalent AMD (something like the Ryzen 1600)

8 gbs of ram will be fine.
Always check if there is a a spare slot or 2 so you can upgrade in the future.

I know you say hard disk is not an issue but I'd highly recommend an SSD.
They greatly reduce boot and application load times.
Look for at least a 250gb+ one.

Ive got the discount from any Dell product over work and I would highly discourage buying from them, in my history they have too many problems too soon and customer service is iffy the above post would be a good like to follow, especially getting a solid state drive.

I've had loads of Dell machines and I've never had a problem with them.

My 7 year old XPS laptop is still going strong (although I have had to replace the battery twice).
