    Hi Lads.
Just wondering if you still have the above going as boardies deal at 199 euro?
I would be delighted with a white one for that money.
    Returning (and happy) customer too.

    Regards

    Hi Gsxr600.

I don't think it was the Planar 1 for the 199 Euro.

It was the Rega RP1 - White as far as I remember.
    https://www.whathifi.com/rega/rp1/review

We still have a few of these left in stock.

    I realised that after posting.
How much would it be posted for planar 1 then?
Both sterling and euro just to compare if thats ok.
I know there was also a special record store day edition, is that gone now?
And finally - is the planar 1 being newer tt worth it? Im just starting with vinyl and not sure if Im going to like it.
Or is there something much better in the 200-250 euro price range.
    Thanks for your help.

    GXSR,

the Planar 1 is a step ahead of the RP1 - but to be fair its quite a bit more expensive.

    The Planar 1 is £248 / €280 including shipping

The RP1 SE White is £199 / €215 including shipping.

You honestly cannot go wrong with either of them!

    Keep us posted,

Thanks for a quick answer John.
Cheeky question though - could you do a 199euro special for me on that white SE model?
    ;-)

    Hi John & Kenny.

    Thank you for quick replies.
I was reasdy to bite the bullet on the rp1 yesterday, but after some deliberations and advice
from few of my friends I was strongly advised against this one.
Minimum recommended for my setup (yamaha a-s2100, yamaha np-s2000, B&W 804s) was at least planar 3.
I will hold out for the moment and when ready you will be my frst port of call.

    Thank you.

Ah GSX I'd agree, we should have asked you for your system details - the RP1 would be fine for you for casual listening but to match your system in quality terms I'd look at the Rega planar 3 or Roksan.

    Thanks for your help John.

That system was not built overnight and the 804s are the latest addition (fantastic speakers btw).
I will do a bit more research and like I said I will be in touch when a decision is made.
Thank you again and all the best.

    Regards.

Hi John & Kenny (& Aaron)
I was talking to Aaron today and I am taking the rp1 after all.
I was also looking for a cartridge for my dad's sony ps lx350h but I will pass as he doesn't want to fix it.
So all the details are passed on and I am looking forward to my first listen of pure analogue sound in years.
    Thank you and talk soon.

    Hey Gsxr600.

Thanks very much for the order.

The RP1 is a cracking turntable and you will be more than happy with it.

    Have a good weekend.

    Hi lads.
The package has arrived on time today.
Already hooked up to the system.
However after finishing side a when changing sides I have noticed quite audible motor buzz / noise.
Would that be normal in this model?
I know its only budget tt but its quite worrying.
    Thanks

    Hi Gsxr600.

    Hmmm....

They will always be some form of electrical hum from a turntable and the louder you have your amp turned up the louder the hum will be when there is silence. Usually you would turn the volume down to change side and then turn it back up once the needle touches down on the record.

Is the noise coming through the speakers or are you hearing the noise from inside the motor on the turntable?

Does the motor produce this noise even when switched off to change sides on the record?

Can the sound be heard while a record is playing?

  • Registered Users Posts: 220 ✭✭Gsxr600

    Hi Kenny.
The noise comes from the motor pulley looking from the top.
It stops the moment you turn the tt off with the switch.
It can be heard during low volume sections but from the actual tt not trough the speakers.
Speaker playback is fine, connected to my yamaha a-s2100.
Edit: I actually turned the volume down to 0 for sides change. Old habit from when I was playing my dads records as a kid.

    Hi Gsxr600.

I fired up our display one here at the store and there is no noticeable hum, so it would seem that there is indeed an issue with the one that you have.

I have two options for you.

I can arrange for a replacement to be sent and the faulty one collected at the same time or I can get our courier to call and pick up the faulty unit and once it arrives back with us issue a full refund.

Please make sure that the faulty unit is packaged with all its accessories for returning it to us.

    Hi Kenny.
Thank you for a quick reply.
I would prefer to get a refund.
I will have it packed and ready to go back today.
The dust cover is actually still unopened and all packaging kept.
I will do some more research into a higher grade rega with that new 24v motor and of course you will be my first port of call for the next hifi.
    Thank you.
