Anyone else notice how Sharon, and others, drink white wine WARM? Like this evening she just took it out if the cupboard. Mel and Rays wife were drinking it too, no sign of it bring cool, left out on the table.

No that was a completely different actress called Brooke Kinsella, her brother was actually murdered I real life and she has campaigned a lot against knife crimes.

The complete opposite to the evil b*tch Gray.

Think that Brookes family were in the closing scenes of the episode about knife crime a few months ago. Heart breaking episode. When at the end real families of knife crime devastation were featured

No Brooke kinsella didn't play carly. She played kellie. ...zoe slaters best mate. The girl who played carly was played by a kellie . Maybe that's were u getting confused.

And neither are the person in that article . I think she was just an extra. Makes good headlines/clickbait tho to say 'eastender actress'

Sharon and the wine didn't bother me. It was the fact she came home ...presumably had a curry for her tea ...was then upstairs with Denny and STILL had 6 inch heels on. I mean wtf. There's not a person alive who would do that.

I think when Sharon took the (warm) wine out of the cupboard it was already open?!
So much for the 'dry house'!

For a second I actually that it was the morning. I was like Phil is driving her to drink. Sharon is obviously still just went to Phil for financial reasons, she doesn’t want to give up her cushy lifestyle.

Anyone else find it very uncomfortable the way the entire pub glared and made comments at the guy for being a "rapist" and attacking Martin for "defending" rape has he even been found guilty?

Liked the way Kush gave it the "so the girls drunk it's rape but if it's the man that's drunk it's ok?"

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,752 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

    So preachy tonight.

Absolutely did not feel uncomfortable , it's fantastic that its being spoken about and people might learn from it . It needs discussion and obviously some man need to face facts and learn what consent actually means

Go Linda , so so true .

Did Martin invite his mates to the pub, around where Ruby the victim lives now?

What I'm saying is have they been found guilty is what I'm getting at?

If they have grand but the way everyone calling them rapists if they haven't had a trial yet doesn't sit well with me innocent until proven guilty and all that

And I don't mean assume Ruby is telling lies either just if they haven't pled guilty or been to trial yet you'd think they'd try to balance it a bit more

Cause I know a man that went through all that and the lying bitch got away with no consequences years back when admitting she made it up :( so I suppose I'm more cautious with things before trial, etc these days

I thought it was a very powerful episode - hard to watch, mainly because it was much more true to life than Eastenders could usually be accused of.
I'm not a fan of issue-driven soap storylines but hats off, they dealt with it extremely well in my opinion.
The fact that everyone was making their own argument and becoming tripped up by another persons', and that nobody's mind was changed by anyone else's argument but that everyone was dealing with their own thoughts and reactions when Ruby finally confronted the friend of the rapists - I was impressed by it.
It's getting people talking and thinking, that's for sure.

it makes you wonder if it should somehow be a crime to be so inebriated/intoxicated to a level or stage where you where you cannot remember what happened and not be in charge of your welfare (if your the one being raped) or have a clear head and know what exactly you are doing if you are going off with someone on a night like that - its often said that you could be out of your head on drugs and have no recollection of what you are doing and the same can go for drink as well - however one is looked on as illegal and the other is sold freely and abused just as much .

hard to do I know, especially with most people when they go out for a night it seems they have to drink in excess to have a good time to the point of not knowing what they are doing or remember what they were doing last night but on the other hand if people puled back to the point of that they had as much drink to get tipsy say but still be in charge of their actions and realise what they are doing it could avert a lot of these cases that carry on, or rapes that are carried out .. or suspected rapes .

    - not saying of course a person can go out and rape another person because of drink and use it as an excuse ... but a bigger picture here is that maybe people should go out, have a good time .. but dont end up so blind drunk that they are still in charge of their destiny and can hear the word 'No' if its used, or judge the situation when it isnt consensual in the situation if/when it arises

Thought provoking programme anyway all the same

Hey Phil was so drunk the time he and Denise slept together he didn’t even know does anyone remember that? Did Sharon make a slight reference to that tonight?

Making inebriation illegal solves nothing, even if it could be policed. As you point out yourself, people still manage to obtain, use and abuse illegal drugs - if alcohol or drunkenness became illegal, people would find ways around that too.
Also, I'm hesitant to point out, you're getting into the area of victim blaming.
Of course everyone has a responsibility to look after themselves, and getting so drunk or high that you can't do that is irresponsible and dangerous.
But at the end of the day, rapists rape because they are rapists. They prey on people who are vulnerable.
Yes, people can make themselves more vulnerable by overindulging in alcohol or drugs etc, and that's something that every person should be aware of so that they can protect themselves, but please be aware that a culture of victim blaming makes it harder for a victim of rape or sexual assault to report their crime. Can you imagine how damaging it must be for the victim of such a crime to hear people saying 'But he/she was very, very drunk', as if that's a justification?
I'm not attacking you or your post, but just asking you to think more deeply about the issue and how you express your views on it.
I think the current storyline and tonight's episode in particular will be helpful to viewers who may not have looked at the issue from such a range of angles in the past.

all rape is wrong but we the public never get to hear the statics or percentage of rapes or assaults that happen when a person is cognitive or if they are out of their mind on drink or drugs .. and there lies another problem with it all .

Reading articles about drink and how it can affect a person or people it is often said that drink gives a person that extra confidence and bravado to carry out something that they may not have attempted when sober. - now you could also argue that if a person is normally naturally aggressive without drink in them their actions are amplified when they are drunk and become even more aggressive ... so from that I suppose we can take that if someone was a rapist or had rapist tendencies (for use of better description) and would not take a no as an answer off the other person when they do not want consensual sex then yes we could say that being heavily intoxicated with drink or drugs and combined with not really knowing what they are doing could push them to carry out raping someone whereby they might not if they were sober - would you agree with that? (obviously not with everyone but with some).. and hey maybe the majority, but as i say without proper statistics of how many rapes or sexual abuse is carried out under the use of drink or drugs I suppose you cannot really gauge how much drink or drugs play a part in a person getting raped or sexually abused.

How come the first fella is being charged with rape when she wanted to sleep with him.

From what i make of it, he's being charged as he "allowed" the other fella to have sex with her.

Alfie is only back five minutes and I'm sick of him already.
I liked his character years ago when Nana Moon and Spencer were still around.
