Moving to Dublin

I’m thinking of moving to Dublin from rural Ireland in the near future and looking for suggestions where to live.

Budget is small - c.€200k - and would prefer a small house rather than an apartment and would need a parking space.

I’ll be moving on my own and would prefer to be between the canals for access to the city for returning to study, socialising et al.

I know that areas can vary within a couple of streets so I’m open to living anywhere safe.

    Thanks in advance.

Good luck with that sort of money. 200k might buy you a run down Celtic tiger era shoddy apartment in a rough part of Clondalkin or another outer suburb. Certainly not a house, with parking, inside the canal.

Have a look on daft or any estate agents to see for yourself.

You will not get a house between the canals with a parking space for 200k unfortunately.

You wont get a house in a decent safe area, not a chance.

But, do you really need a house. You could get a nice apartment with a park space close to all amenities.

If its only yourself its a much better option than living in a kip for the sake have having what?? A tiny bit of grass?

You will do very well to find what you are looking for in a nice area without needing a lot of work.

This is close enough to what you are looking for..

Thanks for the replies. The only reason I’m looking for a house rather than apartment is for equipment storage but a van with everything on board might be an option.

Any suggestions of areas for an apartment?

Houses within the canals don't have a car space, as the houses were generally all built before the car was invented. If you want a houses with a designated car space you are looking at about 5km from the city

You can get good value homes in Northwood for about €200k. The management company is excellent and it is relatively close to the city

Do some apartments not have a parking space?

Is that Northwood beside Leixlip? What are the public transport links like for there?

Northwood is nowhere near Leixlip and Leixlip is nowhere near the city canal area.

Have you a job in Dublin yet?
My advise would be rent or house share for a year to get to know your way around and find out where you might prefer to live rather than commit to buying and finding out later it was a huge mistake.

I live in Blanchardstown and you'll get a place here for around that. I can get into town in 30 minutes. Secure storage and parking.

Leixlip is in Kildare. Northwood is in santry. They are nowhere near each other!

You could get a one bed apartment with parking in the Viking Harbour Complex in D8. Area is rough around the edges but perfectly safe. There's also the Maltings and the apartments across the water in D7.

Thanks for the replies - I'm now considering Louth

The 'legendary' 39, 39A or in some cases the 38. Use Dublin bus' website to see the stops.
