Loved to listen to him on 5 live and could listen to him tell his stories for hours. He will be sorely missed.

There is a tribute program they recorded last year with him on tonight on 5 live at 10 pm, Its also available online as well now.

Probably the same programme that had him talking about how he was lined up for playing in the 1966 side before getting injured. Always good to listen to.

He didn't seem to have or be fuelled by the envy of current players like a lot of former players seem to have (and especially those of the 80s), so I always thought he was a refreshing analyst discussing the game - not just the match in front of him.

Reminds me of a great Dunphy moment on the box..

A good few season's back Giles & Dunphy were discussing the merits of Avram Grant as Chelsea interim manager.

Dunphy "At Leeds back in the 70's, now John will know more about this than me, Clough got the bullet after a month in charge & Jimmy Armfield came in & did a wonderful job. The late Jmmy Armfield. A marvelous manager, he galvanised the team & brought them to a European cup final"
