What's going on at the airport roundabout?

Traffic is reduced to 1 lane to accommodate some groundworks on the roundabout. Leaving the airport business park last night was a disaster - waiting 20 minutes to get out of the company carpark, 40 minutes to get to the Kinsale road roundabout. Not so bad this morning but still several minutes of congestion coming up the airport hill.

No word from the business park management and can't find anything on the county council website.

Morning update from Business Park Management:

"We here at the business park were not made aware of the works.

We are unsure who is controlling these works, Cork County Council, NRA or Cork Airport Authority.

Our understanding is that Cork Airport Authority were also unaware of the works.

We have now contacted both Cork County Council & CAA this morning to update us on this at which time we will circulate to the business park."

I rang the roads section in Carrigaline, they directed me to the National Roads office in Glanmire. Got no reply, their website (http://www.corkrdo.ie/) is a joy to behold for updates. I would be surprised if I get a call back.

Further update from business park management:

"The works at the roundabout are controlled by the National Roads Authority.

This is an upgrade of the approach to the roundabout, landscaping of the roundabout & the installation of a new feature. The schedule of works is a 6 week project.

They are very aware now of the chaos yesterday in respect of the traffic congestion at this junction & the business park etc, the works apparently have to proceed.

It is agreed for the moment & this will be monitored/altered if necessary,

    Works/Barriers etc between 10:00 – 16:00

Outside of these times the fencing will be brought back to allow both lanes from the airport grounds to be utilised as well as both lanes at the roundabout."

Pretty poor show by the NRA if both the business park and the airport were not made aware. There's nothing on the NRA website about scheduled work.

    Tweet from Cork Airport earlier

1/2 @Corkcoco & @TIITraffic have commenced works on a joint project to enhance the existing Airport Road Roundabout and the adjacent approach road from Kinsale the R600.

These works will be restricted from tomorrow to the hours of 10am to 4pm daily for a duration of six weeks.

Both lanes will be open this evening to exit @Corkairport and the business parks from 16:00 and both lanes will be open from all directions on the approach to @corkairport from tomorrow morning up until 10:00 daily
