I rang Littlewoods this morning and within half an hour later I got a text saying it’ll be delivered today! Won’t hold my breath till I see it.

I've smth else purchased from Littlewoods sitting in Laois hub since 29th of Nov!
Emailed Fastway and they advised they were experiencing delays and to keep checking tracking.

Littlewoods sell them but currently sold out. I think you could use the Apple uk website and then parcel motel etc. it says 4-6 weeks waiting for delivery.

My HomePod arrived today with fastway after I rang Littlewoods this am. But it’s a Xmas gift to my wife. Can’t wait to see what it can do.

Just be careful ordering though package forwarding services such as the Parcel Wizard and Motel ones. With Brexit kicking in there are issues for deliveries in the future. Parcel Wizard has closed now AFAIK. Not ideal to order something to one of these without checking first.

Hi Billydoc - where are you seeing the 4-6 week delay? I'm waiting on my wife's Christmas gift now and getting more and more nervous.
The parcel "should" have arrived at Parcel Motel's Belfast address on Monday (4 days ago) but it seems to be in limbo and I can't track it down.

Now I'n stuck sending emails to DHL hoping for a response.
    Apple say it's delivered.
Their delivery partner, Syncreon say it's "Delivered"/"Out for Delivery"/"Arrive Terminal"/"Our For Delivery".
Syncreon link to DHL who seem to be giving mixed messages but do say that it's "out for delivery" and that "Your parcel is due to be delivered on Monday 07th December 2020"

I saw it on the apple uk website few days ago when I thought about buying one, it said delivery was after 20th January when I went to checkout.

Hopefully they do, unless it was a mistake in the first place. Apple never sold the HomePod range in Ireland, so not sure if this will prohibit stores from selling it here.

But it seems littlewoods are selling them here - unless they get around it by putting the sales through their UK operation maybe

They can’t even be got in the UK it seems. Looked through a lot of websites and all sold out. Extortionate prices on EBay.

Got mine yesterday through parcel motel. 5 days in total. I’ll take that as a win considering the delivery dates given on the Apple website.

Why didn’t I get two though, that’s the real question.

Incredibly slim. Maybe if some site such as Currys or Littlewoods are using TopCashBack, might get a few % back

Prob best solution now with Brexit and everywhere else not having them
I love getting my Homepod to airplay to a bose speaker in the kitchen.

Lads.... gripes with Siri.... where is Whisper mode?? and I shouldn't need my iphone nearby to check the weather. If i ask the homepod something, I want the answer there and then.

Hardly price gouging. They’re £99 from apple. They’re making a fiver extra and have stock.

Never even though their stock would be coming from
The UK and it would be Sterling prices converted to €’s.

Bought 2 of the HomePods recently - they are great. Amazing sound quality. Wish they would sell them here though as looking to get 2 more and not looking forward to having to pay VAT and excise duty....

Will Apple UK deliver to Ireland, I wonder? I got my (full-size) HomePod in the Apple Store in Belfast back in 2018, before the dark times.

    Nope*

    * well it requires you using a parcel forwarding service and you'll be hit by customs.

I bought mine a few weeks ago and used Parcel Motel for the first one and Address Pal for the second one. I’ll be hit with VAT and excise if I buy more!

At risk of derailing the thread here but how much are we talking when VAT is added from a UK delivery? Interested in buying a full size one, have two minis at the moment.

    Fecking Brexit.

Now I have no idea if they actually had any in stock as I did comment to myself that the store did look as if it hadn’t been restocked in MONTHS. However both colours of Homepod were on display. They look lovely in the flesh and I assume they sound equally lovely!

There's no Excise Duty on audio speakers. Excise Duty is only charged on very specific classes of items.

    https://www.revenue.ie/en/companies-and-charities/excise-and-licences/excise-duty-rates/index.aspx

There's also no Customs Duty on importing them from the UK (or anywhere else under WTO rules):

Importing a Home Pod, you would be liable for Irish VAT, but you should not have to pay UK VAT. So the difference in price at the at the moment would be 1%.

Of course, that is if you can find someone who sells them in the UK and is willing to ship them here (and understands that they should not be charging UK VAT on exports).

If the company selling them is set up for Irish VAT (like Amazon or other large online retailers in the UK), they'd collect the Irish VAT and that's all you'd pay. Paperwork on the shipment would say that the VAT is paid, and it would sail though customs.

If they weren't, then there's a chance that Customs would stop the package and you would be asked to pay the Irish VAT before you received the delivery. An Post or the courier could charge an admin fee as well as collecting the VAT. I think An Post charge a tenner, not sure about other delivery companies.

If the UK supplier doesn't take off UK VAT, you end up paying Irish VAT on top of it. There's nothing the Irish authorities can do about that, you'd have to take it up with the UK supplier.

Great. Thanks for clarifying as I was under the wrong assumption. So it won’t be too much extra then.

I suppose the issue will arise with UK companies who do not ship here i.e. Apple UK when buying a HomePod/mini or John Lewis. You’ll pay the UK VAT and the Irish VAT too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,114 ✭✭✭Gregor Samsa

Yeah, the main problem will be getting somewhere that ships them to Ireland in the first place. A quick look didn't reveal anyone I'd buy from (but that wasn't exhaustive). And then is trying to convince a British company not to charge you VAT - many of them are not going to be used to exporting, and they may feel it's not worth the effort to look in to how to do it properly.

Parcel Motel ins't an option any more (at least at the moment). You could still use Address Pal, but you will be charged both UK and Irish VAT. No way around that - the seller will have to charge you UK VAT since it's being shipped to the UK (first) - so to them it's not an export. You could get luck and the package will slip by without being charged Irish VAT, but I'd say An Post will be keeping a close eye on stuff coming though Address Pal, because there's an admin fee in it for them to collect VAT. Maybe there's a way of reclaiming VAT from HMRC, I'm not sure.

Also, note that Irish VAT is due to go up from 21% to 23% in March. The reduction to 21% was a temporary measure. So the price gap will grow a bit more when that happens.
