Also another moan - my husband is working late and hasn't been home before 9 or 10pm once in over two weeks. Then at weekends he has had things on most evenings. So I've had two weeks of single motherhood from 8am til bedtime.

Looks set to continue for another week or so too. But my parents are taking the one year old up to Belfast for a few days next week and I am so looking forward to it! Altho will likely spend most of the time cleaning (you could catch a disease in this house, it's that bad) and packing boxes for our big move in mid-November.

I feel your pain, I dont have a child to be looking after but my OH has been helping his friend who is moving house most nights this week and hes away the weekend, it can make the days feel lonely and long! Back to doc 2moro for check up and due in hospital next Tues for my 38 week app so dying to see how baby is progressing as she was measuring a little small last app..

I am defo getting more uncomfortable now, random pains and contractions you feel like oh this could b the start then they just stop after a while! Everyone is telling me enjoy the break of the last few weeks but its hard when you just want the baby to be here now...

Ah caitriona, that is very very hard, as I said on a post a few minutes ago I am living for the moment my husband gets home so that he can take over every evening, I couldn't cope otherwise. You are most definitely a super mum!

What if you perhaps said you were liking the idea of something like a night in with a dvd and a nice takeaway before the madness started would your husband maybe stay home some weekend night? Or can you tell him you are going out so he can't and head over to a friend for the same plan, again, getting some you tome before baby comes? I think I would tell him that and say sorry, he just can't go out tonight cause someone has to look after his son and you can't cause your out.

Thank god for mums and dad's, will be great when your parents take over for a few days!

Caitriona, you might want to have a chat with your OH....two kids is all hands on deck, especially when they are small. And if you thought he annoyed you on the first (what husband doesn't ) it becomes practically impossible to hide it/keep your cool on the second.Maybe a casual conversation about what kind of help you expect mightn't go amiss.....especially if you're breastfeeding.

Loads of appointments today glad it all seems to be good news and the babies are facing the exit.

I'm glad your parents are giving you a break Catriona you might want to pencil in some rest and relaxation too in the time.

I know its hard for the partners to strike a good balance between work and helping out with the pregnant partners but I firmly believe it needs to happen or things come crashing down and usually all it takes is pointing out to them. I know my husband needs to be told because he's not a mind reader but once I say he is usually understanding.

I am exhausted this evening can hardly keep my eyes open. The homework is done and there won't be much else done here before bedtime but thankfully they are at an age that they can entertain themselves for a while.

Hope your boy is back to good health now I think mirrorwall it was, but I can't see on the phone.

I don't know if my baby is engaged it definitely doesn't feel like there's any pressure but it didn't the last time either so I'm not reading much into that. Not going to get the flu jab I never do and I suppose it's one of those things if you get flu once you will always get the jab. Hopefully I can avoid the flu.

I think every pain is something kicking off but none have been remotely like a contraction. Wishful thinking by me.

38 weeks tomorrow and have been having pains all throughout the day. Wondering if things are starting to kick off or if it’s a false alarm?
Although I had the same thoughts at 34 weeks last time. I remember driving home from a trip away, wondering would labour pains be similar to these Braxton hick things. Baby arrived less than 24 hours later.

    https://www.hse.ie/eng/health/immunisation/pubinfo/flu-vaccination/flu-vaccine-pregnancy/

The HSE advice (and NHS too) says the flu vaccine gives the baby protection for a few months after their born similar to the whooping cough. I was close to not bothering now (I’m 37weeks tomorrow and I’m getting it next Tuesday) but just thought how awful I would feel if the baby ended up with the flu this year.

It’s not perfect but it’s free and I think it’s better to have it and not need it than not get it and end up regrettting it.

Huh, my gp says it doesn't vaccinate the baby, and I suppose it says it CAN protect them for up to six months. At least we know they won't get the flu from us mamas.

I had to pay 20 to get mine...

I just felt a bit under the weather after the whopping cough one so I feel like I would feel a bit sick after the flu one?? My OH works in Boots and he can get it for free for me so I reckon ill ask my doc tomorrow about it and then decide..

I’m a little ‘off’ this evening after it but tbh that’s as likely to be my lads dose as anything else. Arm is fine, needle is tiny this year-didn’t even feel it!! My GP strongly recommended it but then as I said asthma+flu is pretty dangerous so he’d always be recommending it

  • Registered Users Posts: 159 ✭✭aidom

I’ve heard it’s €20 or free if you’re in an at risk group. Pregnant is one of the at risk groups. I guess I’ll find out on Tuesday.

Maybe the vaccine was free and the GP charged for their time?? I paid €30 when I got the whooping cough. Is that one meant to be free?

Yeah it was 30 for whooping cough for me. I questioned the receptionist on the fee for flu vaccine, I expected to pay 30 and she said the hse had reduced the fee this year so I am not sure if I was paying the GP for administering or the hse for the vaccine... I was happy with it being cheaper anyway! My gp knows I am pregnant and there was no talk of it being free. Who knows!

I was the same, didn't even feel the needle go on this time, no sore arm and no side effects whatsoever and its three days since I had it now so fairly happy with that.

I’m booked to get the flu jab on Monday with my 2 girls. I always get it anyway, and believe it does pass immunity to the baby. My eldest is in one of the at risk groups (DS), so I get it for her anyway & then I wouldn’t leave my youngest out. Better to be safe than sorry!

Finished up work today which is so weird coz unlike others in here I’m not quite at that fed up stage. Mind you, I still have another 4 weeks to section date.

Dying to hear how those being induced are getting on!

How old is your youngest jodee? I kinda half considered giving it to my wee man cause he has just started creche and reckon he will pick up everything going and then bring it home to the baby. Gp was saying it would be given across 2 injections a month apart. Not sure it's worth it (if you saw how he reacted to injections you would understand!), also it is mostly just given to high risk children so thinking I might be over reacting.... Just trying to protect the babies as best I can though!

She’ll be 3 in December but I got it for her last year, so she was under 2 getting it the first time, and yes, 2 doses a few weeks apart. That’s only for the first vaccination though. Every year after is just the one dose!

I paid 30 for the whooping cough. I presumed it was for the nurse fee rather than the vaccine.

Dying to hear of baby updates! Hope girls are getting on ok.

As for me, the doctor has last minute offered to try and turn my stubbornly breech baba... he said odds are v low of success - only giving me in the order of 10%. For some reason, and although I wanted to avoid a C section at all costs, I am not keen on even trying. I did everything under the sun to try and turn that baby myself and they have been breech since at least 28 weeks... I just feel it's for a good reason. Even if it worked, what if baby ended up in suboptimal position and I ended up having an emergency C - would prefer a scheduled one to that. Any thoughts?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,751 ✭✭✭mirrorwall14

My lad was breech until late and we (husband and I) had discussed this and were likely not to go for the turning. The worry of an emergency c section after a fairly traumatic birth on our first was just too much. At a 10% chance of success I’d probably not go for it.

Coombe physio this morning was amazing! I’m on crutches for the remainder of pregnancy and whatever she did to my hips has helped a lot. Got a specific exercise for them and approval for heat etc. Oh and an extra belt

Thanks Mirrorwall14, that's the way I am leaning. I have come to terms with the section (although I HATE how it's called an elective =- they won't let me deliver baby vaginally!!) and I have lots of support around for recovery etc, and fingers crossed can go for VBAC on second. He is being very good saying I am the boss but I think he would be urging me to go for it if he thought it would work. It works much better on second time mothers. Also, the fear of an emergency C is overriding everything... there was so much concern about this baby being so small, i just want them here the safest way possible now.

God love you with the SPD... hopefully you won't go much longer - what's the due date?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 927 ✭✭✭greenttc

Cla Cla I think I would be thinking exactly the same as you already are. I haven't had one but a section can go very well and you can recover from it quickly and easily if you look after yourself and the wound carefully. So I wouldn't be worried about getting one of them at all.

I hate the idea of an unknown and the possibility that you are at a high risk of a section anyway so why not just cut to the chase and be prepared for the section mentally and otherwise and cut out all the other stress, and I have read that vbac is hugely possible and doable for the next one!

Also Is the trying to turn baby procedure risky at all? I don't really know a thing about it but it doesn't appeal to me anyway!

There is small risk of going into labour (so they do it on labour ward) and then an even smaller risk of placental abruption, but these are really very small. Will see what he says tomorrow. That baby's head is lodged under my ribs to the right... i really think they aren't going anywhere so to go through all that for nothing....and with possibly a worse labout outcome...my gut is saying just go with the C.

Next week it is! Can't BELIEVE it!!!

Im in a very similar situation to you but this is my 2nd child. Had an emergency section with my first. This baby is all over the place. Have a meeting with consultant today so I feel I will also be booked in for a section. Which could potentially mean next week also. Cant believe it.

A midwife recommended to me not to try turning it and shes right. Dont mess with mother nature. A private specialist said no way in hell to try turning it after having a section previously.

The messing with nature thing is in my head too (not that a C isn't but you know...) Would love to chat to a midwife about it but I don't see any. My consultant has been scanning me every week since week 31 and he just knew the baby wasn't going to turn. He also felt the bump last week and said bum seems fairly lodged in pelvis, it didn't stir when he went to move it. I think I am going to leave it.

I definitely think you are right after having a section previously. I am sure one with a child at home would be no joke but it's about what's best and safest for both us and baby at this stage.

I agree. I was really really hopin for a natural birth this time just because of the toddler at home. But we'll manage..once our babies get here safe and sound it will all be ok

I would go for the section if I was you girls! It so nice to have a date and you can plan around it. I had my 37 week today with doc, baby is head down but not engaged as she said she could feel baby above my pubic bone so guessing baby wont appear anytime soon for me! 2+ of white blood cells and very small trace of protein in urine but she said nothing to be really worried about :/

Hi all :) it’s been a long couple of days waiting. I was given propess yesterday morning and it was left in for 24 hrs and then when that didn’t get things moving they tried to break my waters but that didn’t work either :( so they’ve just give me gel and I’ve to wait six hours until they try break my waters again.

Yep I thought they’d just kinda pop! My cervix isn’t co operating though, it hasn’t moved and is still very high so that’s why they weren’t able to get to them :)

Your cervix has to be favourable enough for them to do it. When I had mine broken, it was a strange experience as one midwife was pushing my bump to get baby's head and waters really low down, while the doctor fiddled around with her little stick (it's like a crochet hook) to pop them.

Then once they had been broken, nothing happened until I stood up. Next thing, it's like there's lots of warm urine coming out which you can't stop! It wasn't a big gush like in the films. Lots of smaller gushes, probably a similar volume to your average trip to the loo each time, and it went on for many hours. My waters were blood-tinged from the show too.

I remember being amazed by how much fluid was in there!

Awe panda its sometimes a long drawn out process isn't it. Hope they get you going soon and baby will be here before you know it.

Sorry to hear about the babies in the unfavourable position. It's disappointing but will be long forgotten when baby is in your arms very soon.

Hope everyone is getting plenty of rest and relaxation. I've been bouncing on the gym ball all evening I'm getting a bit uncomfortable now so think I will go for a lie down.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,751 ✭✭✭mirrorwall14

They couldn’t get in to break mine on my first either and I was waiting for a section. Turned out they had gone on their own, when I went into labour myself they went to break them and there was none there. Cue panic as I was supposed to be on antibiotics lol.

Best of luck with it, induction can be fierce slow. Have you commandeered a ball for yourself? I used to sit beside the bed bouncing reading a book balanced on the bed!

Crutches are a pain in the neck but I knew they would be. Was very sore this afternoon after physio and a trip into dunnes (I’m hindsight that was a silly idea!). Can’t believe I’m 38 weeks this weekend. The end seems to be finally coming into sight

Mirrorwall, have you got yourself a little backpack for carrying things around the house? Invaluable with crutches. They are an almighty pain but will really take the pressure off the SPD.

I worked with a girl who had terrible SPD and was on crutches. There's lots of getting up and down and walking around in my job as it's not an office job. I don't know how the hell she managed.

Yeah I spent nearly two months on crutches last year after foot surgery so I’m well used to them although the technique is different so I’m a bit uncoordinated lol. My back right of my pelvis started grinding yesterday so I knew I was going downhill. I’ll live with them if it keeps me a bit more mobile

Had my check up and baby is gone head down now...only since last week. Cant believe it turned so late but I'm not convinced as it was previously head down but turned again. Back next week again to see but have a section date now too. Its getting so close now

The more time goes by, the less space there is in there and the harder it'll be for baby to turn back again. Plus head down is naturally the more comfortable position for baby to be in any way. So now that they have turned down, I would think the odds of staying down are fairly high! Although naturally you will worry. How far along are you? If baby flipped round again at say 38 weeks, you would definitely feel it happening!

So on top of the usual end of pregnancy pains and exhaustion and insomnia, all the marriage and house move stress (midwife referred me to mental health yday as I was such a wreck), being a single mum for two weeks as my husband is gone from 8am-10pm daily, and a crazy toddler to run around after... I'm now coming down with the cold! I am so cross! I need this like a hole in the head!

My sister is also getting one and feels pretty awful. She has a day off tomorrow, and for two weeks now i have been counting down to it as she is taking my toddler for the day. I have a huge list of jobs to do and tomorrow is my chance. If she's too sick in the morning to take him, I may cry! Again!

  • Registered Users Posts: 407 ✭✭audi02

Im 38 weeks on Sunday. The last few times its moved I've felt it so if it happens again I'll know. Had a section with my first after a very hard labour and I'm afraid of goin thru that again so I'm at the point where I feel a section may be the better option as this baby is measuring big now too.

Ah catrionanic you poor thing I really dont know how you do it. There's days where myself and my OH do be ready to kill each other and that in itself is just exhausting. I really think you need to forget these jobs and just take a day to yourself if you can. Everything else will get done in time.
