Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I never bought the whole City thought it was too much money for Sanchez, wages etc.

I think they felt it was too much money for the role they envisioned him playing; namely, a rotational attacking player. They didn't want to pay him wages befitting a star player, while we did. And thats, ultimately, why he came to us. We showed we valued his contributions far higher than City did, and were willing to back up that valuation financially.

Im sure The fact he is pretty much guaranteed a starting spot with us was also a consideration.

I'd say between that and wages we swung it ha.

While money is obviously a primary consideration, the Club history , playing on front of a crowd of over 70,000 in a club that funds itself through success was some nice gravy to make the move sweeter.

Wait until you see Ramsey of Arsenals incredible goal-scoring saving tackle. My god it was out of this world.

Big game tomorrow, a win there and it sends a big message out.

So are we getting our thread title back If it wasn't a technical issue and just an accidental change?

That loss against Huddersfield is still annoying.

    They're a shower of shíte.

Roma sniffing after Blind to replace Emerson apparently. I wouldn't mind if he left. Class dude but neither himself or Darmian get a look in so best of luck to them.

Same as that. Wouldn't bother me at all if he's gone.

How did we lose to Huddersfield?!

I know we were dire on the day and didn't even crank up the gears when rashford scored but such a cheap 3 points to giveaway looking at their game on the box now.

Listening to a podcast today and the suggestion was that they thought what I had said could happen. Matic, Pogba and Lingard in a central 3 with Martial, Lukaku and Sanchez in front of them. If you're playing 433 then it's either Lingard or Herrera. I know Herrera is more naturally suited, but do you try to shoehorn Lingard in for the things he offers? In fairness to Herrera he's shown glimpses of improvement.
I think tomorrows line up may set the tone for Jose's approach to 'big games' for the foreseeable future. After 18 months he should be reasonably close to a settled team or strategy.

Playing Lukaku, Martial, Sanchez, Lingard and Pogba together regardless of whether it's a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1 would show a strong attacking intent at odds with the approach to most big games earlier in the season.

Even if we use a similar formation to the one we used at Arsenal where we played our most 'top heavy' selection for a key game we would only had room for 4 of the above as opposed to all 5.

Lovely. 11 points clear of Arsenal with a game in hand. That's top five and European football of some sort wrapped up imo.

Now, beat Spurs tomorrow and that's top four pretty much done too.

I'd say offer Smalling for Ozil, they'd jump at that.

Massive game for us tomorrow night if we win and pool win Sunday that should be top four teams sorted.

Yep, but when he was available Mourinho still opted against a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 consisting of two very forward thinking midfielders.

The only reason we're even debating that all 5 will be in the same line up come tomorrow is that it's incredibly difficult to drop one based on current form and the arrival of Sanchez. That and United fans will forever be optimistic in their hopes that the manager will unleash the wealth of attacking talent at the club regardless of the opposition.

I'd be absolutely delighted if we go with the line up that everyone is hoping for and we come away with all 3 points but I think it's unlikely.

    I think you will see

    Keeper, back 4

    Then Matic, Pogba
    Sanchez, Lingard, Martial
    Lukaku

Wouldn't be surprised to see Mata in there either though

    Or Smalling, Jones, Rojo
    Valencia Shaw
    Matic Herrera/Fellaini Pogba
    Sanchez Lukaku

    Could also see a 343

    Smalling
    Jones
    Rojo
    Valencia
    Matic
    Pogba
    Young/Shaw
    Sanchez
    Lukaku
    Martial

Sanchez and his disruptive attitude coupled with his constant giving the ball away really makes a difference to Arse.....

    Oh.

    Wait.

    No it doesnt.

Could see Mata start ahead of Jessie and depending on how the game goes bring him on for the last half hour or so.

    Buzzing to see Sanchez play.

What's the bets on Alli et al trying to mill him.

I think the most likely of those is the middle one and it might even have Lingard in there instead of Herrera/Fellaini and pushed up a little higher.

I just don't see Jose going with the first line up or any similar formation with the same personnel (the 5 'attack minded' players).

I think it's either 4-3-3 or 5-2-3 (3 at the back, however you see it). I doubt he goes 4-2-3-1 away to Spurs.

    4-3-3:
    Valencia---- Jones
    Mike/Rojo, Shaw/Young
    Matic

    Herrera/Fel
    Pogba
    Sanchez
    Martial
    Lukaku

    5-2-3:
    Jones
    Smalling
    Rojo
    Val
    Shaw/Young
    Pogba----Matic
    Sanchez
    Martial
    Lukaku

Assuming in both that Bailly isn't fit, or if he is fit, he's not going to be randomly thrown back in in such a difficult game. I'll be pretty disappointed if Sanchez is on the left, Martial who has been crucial for us is moved/dropped to accommodate him.

We are playing spurs at wembley, not even their own ground, we should be enjoying the occasion and taking the game to them. We are better in every part of the field except for the striker position

Lingards movement and work rate will be invaluable tomorrow night, Mata will drop out I’d say

Mata is a better passer, better control, awareness, better link up play, its a 50/50 call

Oh I agree, don’t get me wrong it’s defo a 50/50’call but can see Lingard being selected to harass the Spurs back 3 and pull them out of position allowing Sanchez and Martial more space

I don't know how you'd say it's 50/50 based on current form tbh.

Lingard is scoring for fun. Mata goes anonymous in games more often than not. I'd be getting Lingard down as one of the first names at the moment.

Can't see us going for it and being honest, it's the right move.

Draw and there is an 8 point gap with Liverpool playing Spurs at the weekend and us at home to Huddersfield.

Last 2 or 3 matches Mata has been in very good form so they are both on form, though Lingard a little longer.. thought Lingard was poor enough in what I seen against Yeovil, seemed like he was trying too hard. Though he then scored another Worldie :pac:

What does it even mean? Try and win the game?
I expect we do that everytime we play.
