Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Everybody used to wear a vest in days gone by, kids, old folks and everybody in between.

Does anyone still wear a vest other than at the extremes of the age spectrum.

Not in the past 30 year.

    Sometimes :(
    Under a shirt or jumper.

I used to think it was an old man thing. I realise now it probably is.

Tshirt under a shirt sometimes if its nippy out.

    Does that count?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,067 ✭✭✭pauliebdub

Very seldom, unless it's bitterly cold. Quite a few of the lads at work wear them, either t shirts or normal vests under their shirts. I find them uncomfortable.

I'm assuming as vests are still selling, someone other than myself is buying them.

That's the rub. When is a vest not a vest?

Would those strappy tops that women wear in summer count, cause if so, yes. Wear them under t-shirts all the time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,518 ✭✭✭✭dudara

I wear a string top under jumpers and heavier tops, as they provide a more skin tight layer for comfort. I assume they count as a vest?

I wear a тельня́шка when drinking cans in the summer with Vlad and the lads, but not sure if that counts since it's more of a sleeveless shirt style thing.

For some reason one of my early childhood memories is hating when my mother made me wear one in winter

Same with me, I also wear a t-shirt under a t-shirt as well which is strange but I can't shake the habit.

Wear a t-shirt under a shirt for most days on the farm. You would need it, or something like it, in the winter. Plenty of layers.

It's winter and I work in an office where the majority of my co-workers are women who set the heating to max-turbo plus. I wear as few clothes as the staff handbook deems appropriate

That's why the Yanks love them.
Personally though I think the silhouetted tshirt under the white shirt looks worse though.

To answer the OP, I haven't worn a vest since I was 12.

No. I'm not into beating up wives.

I haven't worn a vest since I was about 11. I usually don't wear anything under a shirt but in the past month I've changed that, due to health reasons. I'm...just...always...so...cold...

But the Americans call them tank tops, or tanks. When they talk about vests, they mean waistcoats.

    Always.

Whats a vest? Is that like wearing a t-shirt under your shirt?

If it is then yes I am. Always did. In the winter for the cold in the summer so I wouldn't be sweating into my shirts. They're not like those ribbed sleeveless shirts aka classic underwear thingies but just tshirts, most of them not even white.

Is that a bad thing or does it make me old? I am no spring chicken but I did it too when I was 20.

Yes, mine too. Weirdly enough I got used to it so much that even today I'd feel cold if I didn't. Still doing it unless its too warm for that which unfortunately it rarely is.

My husband wears a vest under layers as he works outdoors, it's for the cold. I think he looks very sexy in his vest :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,442 ✭✭✭Riddle101

Used to wear vests as a kid, but nowadays I just wear t-shirts as an alternative. That being said I do wear wife beater vests when it's really hot.
