    Hello,

I hope it's ok to post this.

I'm putting a portfolio together and I need to conduct research on why people choose to live in cities.

So if you live in Cork city can you tell me the reasons why?

For example: work / education / cultural diversity etc.

    Thanks

Anyone? I just need a few reasons, one word answers.

    For example:
    Work
    Education
    Public Transport, etc

    Thanks

I don't live in the city center now, but I used to in my 20's.
For me, at the time; it was the night life and that other friends living in the center, walking distance to all the shops/cinema, and never needing a bus/taxi to get home late at night :)

College initially, then work; restaurants / pubs / shops & general buzz

(living in Cork 27 years now)

I was born here but, I consider it the right size. Any bigger, and you have all the problems of big city life. Smaller, and the buzz is not just there.

Born and grew up here. Moved away a few times. Back now. In terms of Ireland, better standard of living than else where.

It's a good size. Not too large but big enough to have a good range of cultural activities found in much larger centres. Generally easy to get around in terms of traffic. Accommodation is relatively cheap though this is slowly being eroded.

Most people, particularly in the city centre, have a progressive tolerant outlook on life which makes me feel comfortable. Though I find this is less the case in the suburbs and satellite towns.

Perfect size, not too big that it has all the problems that come with a big city, not too small that there is nothing on, maybe it might be different if I actually grew up elsewhere but to me I never tire of walking through town for a few hours but at the same time nothing is too far away. Lots of job opportunities in my field (IT) and its only growing. My education is finished but if I ever have kids we have some great secondary schools on our doorstep and a university and institute of technology that rank towards the top and that people come from all over the world to attend. Public transport is crap but the road network does do its best, with the Dunkettle interchange upgrade in a couple of years we should see a great reduction of pressure on the South Ring. Overall, Cork is just about the best place in Ireland to live.

Came to go to UCC, met someone so stuck around afterwards, that didn't work out but got to like the place so still here. Have always lived in town as meant I could walk/cycle most places unlike Dublin where once drove almost 20 miles from one friend's house to visit another!

Think the size is good although it does amaze me sometimes how tight an area that most people want to socialise in! The number of times that natives have said somewhere that's less ten mins walk away it too far is crazy :)

I moved from France to Cork when the company moved as Ireland was so much cheaper per head for them, than France. My main motivation was to get an English speaking country on my CV.
Now I am still in the City Center or close by, as I prefer to have close access to shops, services and broadband internet.

I moved here in my early 20s. Born and raised in rural Derbyshire, England.

I've been living in the city 30 years and would never go back to living in a village. I generally dislike cities, but Cork has more of a feel of a big town about it. There's everything you need within a few minutes, but there's not that claustrophobia you get in really big cities.

The people are remarkably witty, friendly and helpful. The city centre is usually clean and tidy. There's a good selection of shops, places to eat, entertainment and of course pubs in the city centre, and also in the suburbs.

There's lots of sporting activities too, whether you want to take part or just spectate.

It's also good that there are several hospitals and government departments in the city. Travelling miles to such places if you need them must be a pain in the hole!

Above all else, there's my beloved Cork City FC!

I love the city of Cork and hope to spend the rest of my life here :)
