Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

On another topic I was at a funeral today where the family members who carried the coffin to the grave also lowered the coffin.

    Anyone come across this?

It's standard enough tbh, when a cousin of mine passed some years back..the funeral was in lyreacrompane (up a mountain) her sons and a few first cousins lowered her in...and then filled in the grave, didn't leave until it was finished

Anyone with eir for their mobile phone? Offer of 14.99 a month sim only for 12 months which includes unlimited calls, texts and 30gb of data and free eir sport.
    Coverage/4G any good?

I'd be interested in hearing more about this... Have been with Virgins sim only, infinite everything for €25 a month for a couple of years now. I think they use the 3 network.

Coverage in my new place not the best. And the data coverage has definitely deteriorated recently in some areas.

Anyone using Eir mobile find the coverage generally good or bad?

Not sure if the Off Topic thread is the best place for it but Israel Folau is at it on Twitter and Instagram again...

Honestly, in a week he should be soaking up the good news headlines on his Super Rugby record, he goes off with bizarre religious stances

If I was Pocock I'd get the Aussie team to wear rainbow laces to wind him up... try celebrations should be a mandatory kiss or you get a fine, and everyone hold hands to face the haka.

    That's grand.

In that case, the FAI can feck off if they expect another cent of taxpayer's money.

They aren't really answering any questions, just waffling and giving vague, random responses.

These committee hearings are a waste of time if the person being questioned is not compelled to answer.

Anyone see that Lobov vs Knight bare knuckle fight? Mental.

How messed up in the head do you have to be to take part in this sort of carry on? Two lads faces were properly minced after.

It's going to end up getting banned fairly fast.

The organiser gave away half of one of the fighter's pots because he felt like "it was entertaining enough" because he wasn't throwing enough punches.

I'd be interested to see the data on whether bare knuckle fighters take more or less shots to the head than traditional boxing, and also whether the average force is any different. I'd take a mangled face any day over CTE.

I enjoy boxing and I've watched the odd mma fight but that is not or ever should be allowed. It's not a sport end of. If that was happening on a street corner the 2 lads would be in a cell before they knew what was happening. Barbaric.

Does anyone have any experience letting out parking spaces in Dublin. Like what are the best websites to sell them on, pay the least commission or fees etc

I have always used Daft to find the spaces I’ve rented. Think there is still a free option on it?

Apparently Delaney and two other board members will be leaving the FAI.

I'll believe it once it's confirmed, but if true, brilliant outcome.

I can't think of any country where you have absolute freedom of expression...some give more leeway...but nothing is absolute

The problem is that people don't understand the difference between freedom of speech/expressions and lack of consequences for saying what want. The fact that Folau isn't in jail for what he said means that he has freedom of speech. The fact that he might have his contract cancelled means that what he said was in breach of clauses in his contract,so he has to face the consequences.

As an adult living in Ireland I'm perfectly entitled to get drunk if I choose to so long as I don't endanger or bother/harm anyone else. If I went into work drunk and got a warning for it and was told not to do it again and then did it again my company would be well within their rights to sack me

In Western societies in general, lots of people spend a lot of time talking about their rights and next to no time at all talking about their responsibilities.

Has anyone on here ever filled the AdBlue tank in their car from one of the fuel stations rather than buying the drums of it? Is it handy enough?

So...all that talk of Georgia entering the 6N...had a quick look on the NZ Safe Travel website for Georgia...

Do not travel to the regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia and the areas near the administrative boundary lines. The threat of terrorism, crime and unexploded mines and ordnance makes travel to these areas extremely dangerous.

Previous incidents of terrorism have included improvised explosive devices and other acts of violence in South Ossetia and Abkhazia. There is also a danger from unexploded landmines in Abkhazia and South Ossetia and mined areas may be unmarked. New Zealanders are advised not to stray off well-used roads and paths in those areas.

As these regions are not under the control of Georgian authorities, the New Zealand Government has a severely limited ability to provide assistance to New Zealand citizens.

I really really dislike Paddy Cosgrave and I'm not sure I agree with his position on tax reform either. BUT. He's never hid the internal hypocrisy here. I've always felt people should be able to be critical of mechanisms they benefit from. It shouldn't be up to an individual to self deprive of something everyone else has, just because they feel no one should have it.

(for example, I'm morally opposed to the idea of private schools, but I went to one, and if they still exist I'll send my kids to one).

The fact that he even says that 20k for an ad campaign is a very small amount, tells you all you need to know about him.

    Synode wrote: »

Just to clarify I'd distinguish my moral issue from a practical issue. I think the fact that in parts of the country middle class kids can avoid state schools lessens the burden on government to improve the standard of those state schools. I also think that private schools are clearly academically superior, which is fine, the problem is that access to further education is a supply limited system where academics are all that matter (accepting that the DARE scheme exists), because of that its impossible to give one cohort an advantage without disadvantaging another cohort. (ie, the quality of education in public schools is comparatively worse than if private schools didn't exist at all). Finally I think it'd be genuinely mutually beneficial if social classes mixed a little more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,154 ✭✭✭✭Neil3030

I don't disagree with comments about Cosgrave, but it's wholly disingenuous of the IT to draw a moral equivalence between U.S. companies incorporating in Delaware (where they are still subject to U.S. tax laws) and Ireland's sleight of hand with offshore funds and the U.S. tax treaty.
