Much and all as I love discussing Brexit, and yes Britain is fast becoming a failed state, NO POLITICS, so there we will leave it. Politics forum is here.

That forum is for crazy people, not like this bastion of peace, wit and normality. And excellent moderation.

Is an off topic politics thread a non runner? Awec said he'd be happy to moderate it. At least I think it was Awec, could have been someone else.

    Probably awec tho.

Awec loves politics, so yeah, probably him.

I'm not allowed talk about politics. But having lived in a fair few countries, I have developed some opinions on.... eh.... people buying fruit.

Seems that in Ireland there is a tendency to prioritise fruit that has been grown locally, and on occasion, they buy dodgy, unripe fruit that stokes antipathy toward centralised fruit distributors in Dublin to perhaps mask their shortcomings.

It's completely fine to point out that this is prevalent in Ireland, but it's not necessarily bad fruit buying practice. I would not like to live in a first-piece-of-fruit-past-the-post system like in the UK, where pieces of fruit get tactically assigned to your constituenc... I mean... local shop, and depending on your fruit affiliation, and the area you live, you could spend your entire life never buying the fruit you like (pm me if this metaphor doesn't make sense).

Imagine how dissatisfied you would feel, if you had such little say in your fruit buying. It would likely skew your thinking if you were ever given a say in a major national fruit decision, with far more drastic consequences, like banning European fruit or something.

What I think is most lacking from Irish fruit-sellers is a culture of resigning when appropriate; it's unlikely the lady who fell off the swing would be manning her stall for much longer were she a vendor in a London market.

And I note also that countries with dodgy fruit seem to all have a strong Catholic presence in common, which is probably not a coincidence. You don't need communion bread if you have plenty of fresh fruit available.

    In summary, fruit is complicated.

Had to go searching for this post again

Part of me doesn't want a dedicated thread so people are forced into writing absolute gems like the above but, on the other hand, I would be nice to discuss politics/fruit with people that aren't raving nut jobs from one end or the other.

It'd need a fruity but not fruity name that stopped it attracting attention from other fruit sellers who wanted to discuss the sale of fruit everywhere and were attracted by this rugby specific fruit market.

We could do with a tomato based title seeing as its fruit related in a rugby forum....

Problem is they'd soon find their way to the thread though, just look at what happens during international windows etc.

I'd give it about a week before it was overran by the creatures that lurk in AH and the Politics forums.

My favourite thing about this post, is that I thought Iceberg lettuce was a weak entry so went to find a better option, only to arrive at the same link that clearly gave you iceberg lettuce.

    http://www.greatgrubclub.com/a-z-fruit-veg#I

Iceplant would be an alternative should a thread using this information happen to appear on the forum...!

Berlin, Germany. Tried two different places there. Delish.

Well what use is that  hardly going to hop on a plane for a kebab next time I have a few pints.

I woke up in Galway after going for a few pints in Dublin once, but I think Berlin
    would be stretching it.

Anyone any good reccomendations for Berlin, pints/rugby-wise?

Remember walking into a bar in Berlin and they were playing porno on the big screens, some lad with a very large whopper giving this girl a really good seeing to.

If you stumble upon a similar place, they probably won't show the rugby.

While I initially love the idea... it strikes me a something that might possibly stoke the fires of a poster's antagonistic streak. One might take a dislike to something said on the "neutral political thread" and it carries over to normal threads.

That being said the possibility of this is less likely here given we're civlised human beings and not absolute nutjobs like the lads on politics or after hours.

Boards lets you (or used to let you) have a private invite only sub-board, is that still a thing? Could be a way to keep the riff raff out.

I'd love this for the world cup, but that's me being selfish. Drawing the regular posters off the main board would pretty much ruin it.

As expected Christian Wade didn't make the Bills' 53 man roster. Now another team can sign him or he goes onto the Bills' practice squad which means he's the equivalent of a tackle bag holder.

How much do the practice squad members make generally, do you know?

Minimum is 8k a week, if they stay on the practice squad roster for a full season it's around 136k for the year.

They can get paid more obviously if there's other teams interested etc, in some cases skill positions can get up to around 30k a week or 3-400k a year, but the most Wade is looking at is probably around 200k.

Kerry have missed two goal opportunities and a few points. This is only going one way.

Cooper's a liability. Could be a swing now for Kerry.

He really is. I wasn't sure about the penalty but that could have been a yellow too.

Joe Brolly saying Cooper's 2nd yellow should have been a Dublin free out. The more you watch it the more a yellow seems harsh

It’s a blatant yellow. Total nonsense from
Brolly. Clifford moves in ahead of him and is dragged down - not debatable

****e. That goal kinda came out of nowhere. Thought Dublin were pulling away there.

Not sure about that Hawkeye call, looked like the majority of the ball was inside the post.

Dublin win this on a replay anyway.

Agreed. You have to feel that was Kerry's chance and they didn't get it done. Three missed goal chances including one awfully taken penalty (Cluxton coming off his line aside) as well as numerous missed points.

Enthralling contest overall but you'd fancy the Dubs to win by 6-9 points in the replay.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,245 ✭✭✭ClanofLams

Kerry left it after them, trying to hold ball one point up with seven to go was lunacy.

Must be some sickener for lads outside the 26 busting their hole all year to see Diarmuid Connolly coming on

New fleet of 201-D cars for the lads anyway :P

That seemed like Kerry's best chance through with the red card.

Kerry choked. They'll never get a handier chance than that. 14 men and a ref who couldn't have given them much more.
