Does anyone know if you actually need a virgin media / upc connection point screwed to the wall. There was one there when I moved in, but it's gone now and there is just a coax cable coming out of the wall. Can I plug into that?

Yep. You might need a splitter or some kind of connector, but you can buy those in any place that sells cabling etc, like power city.

The router just isn't getting any signal. They eventually waived all the fees. So a guy will come out on Wednesday and install a new access point etc. It actually worked out kinda well, because my EIR ends on Thursday and it means I won't be paying for an overlapping week.

A vintage football jersey pop up shop is opening up in Dublin tomorrow. I'm hoping to get a few early/mid 90's United and Milan jerseys. It's only open until the 10th of November, so anyone interested needs to get there quickly.

    Where is it opening?

    South Anne Street.

I think it's the unit next to Kehoes Pub.

I dropped in on lunch today, they'd some deadly stuff but I have to admit the prices on some were mental. Had hoped to pick up some early 90s spurs stuff and was looking at a 97 Ginola but it was 65 quid. Granted they'd some cheaper ones the newer you go, but certainly not any bargains with the older stuff.

I thought the same thing. I saw a 94/95 Ireland jersey, in very good condition too. It was €100 quid. As much as I wanted it, I refuse to pay that much.

I might get something from their online shop though. They've some early 90's Milan and Jive that are absolutely gorgeous.

They've some pretty cool player issue track tops and training jumpers that are decent prices.

Apollo 11 the documentary is fab. Was a remarkable feat IMO, the physics and calculus that would have gone into that is amazing. Timing the runs in and out of orbit, getting the Eagle and Colombia to hook up again and then the 30s or so of blackout at re-entry when no-one knows if the astronauts have survived. Fantastic documentary.

Any of you knowledgable chaps know much about laptops?

Thinking of getting this. Primarily for work, I use a lot of tabs and often have photoshop software on the go at the same time.

Also wanted to get something that can game while im away for weekends or on holidays.

    https://www.currys.ie/ieen/computing/laptops/laptops/dell-g3-15-3590-15-6-intel-core-i5-gtx-1650-gaming-laptop-1-tb-hdd-256-gb-ssd-10196336-pdt.html

This is the most non-gaming looking setup I can find. A bit over budget but I'll contribute the difference.

Anyone any thoughts? All the decent asus, acer, MSI machines look like space ships. Couldn't bring them into meetings.

If I was picking purely for home / gaming within a similar budget I'd have gotten this https://www.currys.ie/ieen/computing/laptops/laptops/asus-rog-zephyrus-g-ga502du-15-6-amd-ryzen-7-gtx-1660-ti-gaming-laptop-512-gb-ssd-10194905-pdt.html

Black Friday at the end of the month, hold out on buying anything until then. Have a look at pcspecialist and spec out a laptop there too, avoid Currys if you can (same goes for Harvey Norman and DID etc) as they tend to be grossly overpriced

For the productivity side of things, an i5 is fine but don't scab on RAM, particularly with Photoshop. Ideally minimum of 8gb, and in terms of graphics cards for gaming (AAA titles mostly) the 1650 should do for most games at 1080p.

Also not a fan of dual drives. Better if possible to just have a larger SSD drive in there. They've got a lot cheaper and a 0.5 or 1TB SSD is no longer a big investment.

I've always gone with peripheral sites for my pc builds (have custom built all my home PC's since the mid 90's) but laptop prices in curry's are comparable with amazon and places like laptopdirect these days.

There might be some deals on blackfriday but in my experience the decent build quality stuff doesn't change much at all.

Couple of things I would say on the subject.

    1. HP are the best in my experience. Not necessarily the flashiest, but the build quality and longevity are top.

    2. Always get at least a three year warranty with laptops. And if possible get accidental damage as well. Have had two in my family that both needed the AD inside the 3 year period. And HP also have the best value here. Last one I got was €120 for three year warranty incl. AD.

Bought of a couple off these guys. https://www.elara.ie/ Generally a lot better priced that the high street stores like PC World.

Lamar Jackson is the next NFL superstar. He's absolutely incredible to watch.

Massive gamble for the Ravens to move on from Flacco, but it's clearly paid off especially considering how absolutely terrible Flacco has done with the Broncos this year.

You'd wonder if he'll have the longevity as a mobile quarterback through, RG3 lit up the NFL for two seasons then ended up a shell of the player he used to be after being smashed so many times.

Flacco was already struggling for a few years at Baltimore and was on massive money. It was absolutely time to move on.

I think it was one really bad injury that ruined RGIII, when they put him back on the field after taking an earlier knock. Open to correction...

Well for one I don't think Harbaugh is stupid enough to force Jackson to take the field and try and play through a clearly badly injured knee...

On the topic of series, watched the first episode of Mandalorian.

I'm a star wars fan and then some. Wasn't overly impressed.

Watchmen is excellent but a mix of absurd and disturbing at times.

It was OK. Going to give it some time before deciding. There was a lot of nostalgia references for the sake of nostalgia, let's hook people in etc. The new film trailer is even more blatant in that kind of muck.

Still, the cast is decent so we'll see where it goes.

Gotta say, I've never really "gotten" Star Wars. At least half the films are fairly ropey.

I'm sort of the same, I've seen most of the films and I liked them, but I never really got the whole cult following.

The first three films were brilliant. Revolutionary.

The games and many books that followed were soundly consumed by us nerdier folk.

The prequels were trash and panned as such.

The new movies have been reasonably received but they're hardly better than the prequels. I consider them trash.

My love of the universe comes from those first 3 movies and the incredible but non cannon universe created by an incredibly creative community.

I've scant interest in what is on show nowadays. I haven't followed the other TV shows / cartoons. I don't think Disney knows what to do with the Star Wars universe unfortunately.

They do. Reap as much nostalgic karma from your/my generation as possible, release a film every summer/christmas, release games/films etc with as little effrot/most profit margin as possible, etc.

If Disney plays it's cards right, Star Wars is a never ending cash cow.

Oh sorry. You meant as regards it's fanbase. Sorry. You're right. They haven't a clue there.

I have no issue with nerdy stuff. Would have been a massive Star Trek fan back in the day and still fairly fond of it. Always thought it both built a universe better and had more interesting and thought provoking storylines than anything Star Wars offered up. The original SW trilogy is good, and I may be missing something by having seen them much later on, but I think the 3rd one is pretty close to average even if the first and second are excellent. I also think they did a poor enough job of building the universe - though as you say it has been filled out by much ancillary material.

I thought it was bang average. Definitely a good concept and some great scenes but the story fell flat for me and it was riddled with inconsistency.

They are completely different concepts though.

Star Trek is far more conventional and grounded. It's intended to exist in our universe - just a future version of it but the rules of our universe apply in Star Trek. It's pure science fiction.

Star Wars is pure fantasy. None of the rules of our universe exist or apply and without those boundaries it's story telling is generally on a far grander scale.

I always liked both, gave up on Star Trek after DS9 though - only half watched voyager and haven't watched anything since. I've no interest in the new Star Wars movie, unless the reviews are sensational I'll give it a hard pass.

I still remember the anticipation. Months of hype and merchandise and speculation.

And I still remember the look we all gave each other when we came out of the cinema.

The only star wars movies I've ever watched are the original 6 ones. They're alright, pretty cheesy though.

The danish actor whose name i forget in the prequels was rubbish.
