My 3 batches of tickets have arrived.

Does anyone else have to send paper tickets back (due to resale)? Dreading this process and trying to ensure they get to the right place!

Yeah, I'm confused on this. My gf has 4 QF that were resold but she received paper tickets in the post. I presume they're cancelled obviously, but again, not sure what the expectation is.

The expectation is that you post them back to be destroyed. You won't get paid until you do.

I have 2 tickets secured for the SF that I hope Ireland will make. And have accommodation, flights etc sorted for the period covering this SF and the Final but despite multiple attempts with late night and early morning logins and many login to the ticket site since, I cant get a sniff of any tickets for the final.
The only ones left to buy were those Sport Hospitality ones at crazy money

Did anyone here manage to get final tickets?

I am still hoping that I will be able to turn up something as we get closer to the tournament but it would be one less thing to have to worry about if I could get them sorted at this stage.

Was due a refund for delivery fees too and havent received or heard anything about that either.

Final batch of tickets through the door. Will try and pick up extra out there if needs be. Cannot wait!

Kinda regret not paying extra now to have them posted. Design on ticket is meant to be cool too. Have to wait til September, ah well sure!

You are asked to post them back and you will receive the refund within 16 days of them receiving it.

If you do not post them back you will receive the refund within 16 days of the match being played.

That's what the email of resold tickets says

Received QF tickets today, and awaiting another batch that DHL said were sent to wrong address and they are now redirecting

The design of the tickets is pretty special and will be attempting to keep them in as pristine condition as possible for the post WC framing.

Completely agree. They're much nicer than 2015 and 2011.

Got a text from DHL re delivery but supposedly looking for €40 import fee off me. Anyone else get that? How can they justify that when the tickets are essentialy worthless in Ireland

What? That is bizarre, didn't have that. Def not right. I would get onto DHL, I have contacted them via twitter before and found them useful.

Yup I'm after getting the same! I think it's very cheeky. They've given me the option to pay online but they are also saying my tickets are being delivered today so I'm waiting to see what happens.

What? This doesn't sound right at all! (I had 3 deliveries and none had an import fee.)

Same here, 2 DHL deliveries, no additional charges.

I know,it's ridiculous. We have group package tickets so maybe it's because they went over a specific value? Still ridiculous though, as product won't be used in Ireland so why charge the custom?

Anyway delivery driver has arrived and won't hand over tickets until it's paid.
So I think I will pay it but definitely making a complaint to dhl/revenue. Its not necessarily the cost but the principal of it!

I had over a thousand euro of tickets delivered last week without issue. 2 more batches due soon though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 64 ✭✭sjlc

Rang DHL there. Absolutely no use. Not sure what to do now. Dont want to pay the duty out of principal

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 946 ✭✭✭Phileas Frog

You'll have to pay the duty and appeal it to Revenue. Otherwise, your tickets get returned to Tokyo.

ok so DHL paid the charge to Revenue on your behalf

probably best to pay DHL and get tickets and then appeal to revenue

I'm doing some digging here. Can someone PM me a receipt or a screenshot where this is stated as a Revenue charge?

All correspondence treated in strictest confidence

Never heard of import duty being charged on paper tickets for an event that's taking place in another country, that's ridiculous. The paper tickets have zero worth considering you can't resell them locally, for say over face value where you would be making money on it etc, and even at face value you shouldn't be applicable for VAT considering you're availing of a service outside of the country.

On disputing the charges, I've had a couple of incidents with UPS and charging excessive custom charges, I've always fought with UPS directly to get them corrected etc.

If you pay DHL and dispute it with revenue, they won't refund you the 14.50 handling fee that DHL charge as "pre-clearance".

Not the only country that is having the same issue. I see a UK resident is having the same.

spent €600 on tickets and no charge, wonder is there a threshold?

It's mostly about whether or not revenue spot it.

It's the same when you're ordering goods from the US or China etc. You're technically liable for duties and all of the An Post international parcels go through the sorting centre in Offaly I think.

But it requires somebody actually spotting the parcel for what it is. My girlfriend gets a lot on Ali Express and usually gets away with it but more than once she's been asked to cough up. I was also caught buying a less than legal NFL jersey once that was destroyed but not on another occasion. Pot luck really.

I'm still waiting for any sign that I'm getting these tickets.

Presume e tickets aren't caught for fee so you're caught twice with delivery fee and this then..

Yes exactly. We are already being robbed paying 25/30€ postage as it is :(

The Revenue fee is a DHL/RWC cockup. It'll be refunded. Here is a Revenue statement on the matter, which is why I'm looking for the information above...

Tickets purchased for this year’s Rugby World Cup in Japan are not subject to Customs Duty or Import VAT when delivered to Ireland.

However, it is worth noting that carriers may apply any or all of the following additional charges for: transport; insurance, and/or a handling charge for processing goods through customs.

"These charges are included in the customs value when applying the appropriate Customs Duty rate and are collected with the duty and tax, but are not customs charges. A carrier may also apply these charges where no Customs Duty or Import VAT is due.

These additional charges can vary and should be checked, in advance of purchasing items, with the carriers directly. The charges levied by the carrier for the delivery of Rugby World Cup tickets is not a matter for Revenue.

Similarly, Revenue cannot intervene in disputes between the carrier and the consumer about charges levied by the carrier for the delivery of such items."

surely this is a matter for the organisers now

they have chosen DHL to deliver the tickets globally

Yup, according to DHL it was RWC at fault.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 221 ✭✭GirlatdRockShow

So I paid, maybe I shouldnt have I dont know. DHL driver said it was nothing to do with them
Anyway I requested documentation and this is what I got.

Also it says at the bottom:

Value of the goods & freight must exceed 22€ in order for Vat to be applied by Customs.
The value of the goods and the cost/freight charge are added together before the calculation begins.
In IE VAT is 23% and duty depends on the nature and use of the goods.
There is an advanced payment/handling charge of 2.5% of the customs value or a minimum charge of 14.50€

it suggest the contents are "PVC Card Stock"
this is probably the source of the issue

It reads as if you have ordered supplies

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 946 ✭✭✭Phileas Frog

OK, here's what you need to do if you've been charged. Call DHL on 0818221188 or via email on ie.invenq@dhl.com and they'll sort it for you. The paperwork was filled in incorrectly in Japan by the RWC

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,458 ✭✭✭kuang1

Yup had to pay €37.13 customs fee.
    Tickets arrived today.
Have emailed DHL at Phileasfrog's suggestion. Will update once I receive a response.

Tickets might be pretty, but the Japanese not managing the ticketing side of things nearly as well as England did for last World Cup. That was very well run I thought.
