Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Do you know of any 'official' way of going about swapping tickets? I heard that it was relatively easily done in 2011 when Ireland topped the group unexpectedly, but wasn't told how. I know the official site has a resale facility but nothing related to direct swaps.

I have QF4 tickets that I will likely need to swap for QF2 - it sounds like you are in the same boat.

I will likely wait until after the Japan - Scotland game before taking action but it would be much appreciated if anyone has any information on how to go about swapping. Cheers in advance.

I'm in the same boat so just commenting to keep up to date.

Hopefully it doesn't end up have to sell them on stubhub and buy other ones.

    Keep the faith

On the final stretch now and back in Osaka.

Anyone manage to find any decent spots here to watch games?

Staying down in Umeda but don't mind a wee trek if need be.

There are two Blarney Stones which are quite good, the one down near Dotomobori is cheap and has decent food. The app has a bar finder too though I never used it.

    What app?

The official Rugby World Cup app. It has a bar finder to show you which pubs are showing the rugby. There is a tonne in Osaka so you will have plenty of options.

One other thing, go to Chibo for savoury pancakes. It is one of Osaka's most famous pancake house and ask for the mayonnaise on it too. That is down at Dotombori and the queue moves quick.

Ah right. Haven't needed to use up to this point. Ended up in the Blarney in Umeda. This game has been puke.

    Anyway, grub time.

Email world rugby or ask on Facebook/twitter?
Fair more likely to get appropriate response there.

Yes. I brought back pack in no problem, bit more of a search at the Japan game but same result, they check the bag and then wave you on if nothing wrong in the bag

I'm just back today. No problem bringing in a medium sized rucksack into both games. The checks are fairly cursory. Open the bag and they just have a quick look in. No rumaging down through the contents unless they see something they don't like.
They don't allow bottles of water but I had 4 in my bag, at the bottom underneath the jackets. they didn't check.
You'll also be given a clear plastic bag like at the airport for your pocket contents, phone. wallet, money, etc. Then a quick swipe over by security with their wand and off you go.
After the security check you'll get your tickets scanned.
It's all fairly relaxed and quick.

I haven't been given any of these clear plastic bags people have been talking about and neither are the people I'm with :pac:
Most of the lads had phones, wallets etc in the pockets with no bags and were just waved right in. I had a small bag with me and they only looked in to see what was on top. Easy peasy

Food rules relaxed, see WRC site. Bring your own box meal from the great selections at the nearest mini market. Brought in a small 25cl red wine sold in a little carton, no prob. Of course you can bring what you want right up to the fan zones just outside grounds, great relaxed mood on the grassy area outside the Ecoba stadium, music, a few chilled cans, loads of people had those can cooler bags.

Did you try toutless? Not much use unless seller is also there. There were empty seats and ticket kiosks at both Ireland matches, and also a few guys with unused spares holding them up, risky as reselling is illegal I think. I had 4 for Russia for sale on toutless for over a week, we just done 2 match trip in the end. No takers before I left, but when I put them on WRC ticket site for resale they were accepted and gone in 24 hrs. Find the ticket kiosks on the day. Bound to be seats at face value.

There's a chain of pubs called Hub that are British pubs, and there's one in Fukuoka. I'd say they'd show it no bother if nowhere else is.

If you can convince both nations that a friendly is a good idea during the group stages of the competition then getting it televised and shown in a local bar is the least of your worries.

I assume this person wants to watch the (crucial) Ireland-Georgia soccer qualifier, no? And to answer the question, the odds of getting to see that in Fukuoka are slim indeed, not least since that game will be on around 4am Japanese time

I think it's on at 11pm Japan time (2pm Irish time), so perfect to wander to a bar after the rugby if it does happen to be on somewhere!

8 hours ahead, so should be 10 pm kick off. Match will be on RTE player and SKY customer mobile devices, but only in Ireland afaik on player and possibly EU on Sky. If you know how to set up VPN/DNS redirection on your phone/tablet, it's possible to bypass geolocation restrictions, but you need decent data speed. It's possible to set up vpn on your home router also. I watched highlight on rte on player this way. Had I brought the right hdmi cable could have played through hotel tv. The hub pub chain is a good bet for sport. If there's one near you.

Might not be much help but if you know someone with genuine tickets for the game, ask then to come with you to compare the ticket you're going to buy maybe? People have been scammed recently by looks of things. https://mainichi.jp/english/articles/20190930/p2a/00m/0na/010000c

Arrived yesterday. Had an absolute disaster with tickets, we bought 2 off friends and they sent the same 2 to other people who were already in. Lovely girl from Clare helped us and we got in eventually. Very expensive to drink in bars but you can cans of 9 percent fruit juice and it's the right job. Only about 150 yen. Next stop Fukuoka

All the way to Japan to drink the Japanese equivalent of Dutch Gold? I’m just back, it wasn’t near as expensive as I thought it would be, after drinking goodo for 11 days, I still changed yen in Hong Kong airport on way back. In HUB bars, drink is pretty reasonable, ironically I found some of the “Irish” bars to be the most expensive. Pint of Heineken is around €7, in some places I paid a tenner.

Street food is amazing, and cheap, you will get a fantastic meal for less than €10

its one thing I don't understand about Irish abroad. even worse is going to an "Irish" bar to drink imported Guinness at an inflated cost

Kirin or Asahi is far nicer than Heineken and can be bought for a lot less

Good, me too. But maybe that individual does? You were the one that commented on their choice.

The snobbery around others choices is just weird, doesn't do much for the stereotype. No one knows what budget others are on.

I have seen people give off to others for going to Irish pubs and then others give off for not going to them!

I just think it stops others from posting. Anyway if you like Heineken you're in luck, some of the 7/11 places have little fridges stocked with them as a promo.

Unsubscribing from thread as i am home now, god bless whoever it was that posted the ticket link for the shortcut back in Jan!

Enjoy the rest of the trip folks!

I’m not a pub snob, I’m all for equality, if they sell drink, I don’t care who owns them. My point being, if you go to a few different places, they are not all expensive, albeit a bit more than here. They don’t have a “bushing” culture, you don’t see people drinking out of cans/fruit bottles on the street.

I has a few €10 pints, mostly in Man on the Moon in Kyoto, but apart from that, I didn’t think it was a bad/expensive as I was warned it would be.

Are you mates with Breffni by any chance?

Calling someone out for drinking an actual Japanese drink and then proceeding to outline how much a Heineken cost. You couldn't write it.

I normally drink Heineken so I was glad to see it there (sponsor, I know) don’t know who Breffini is, again, my point being, it isn’t that much more expensive than here, despite the warnings, unless you happen into a bar that is going to really rip you off and charge 1100 yen for a pint just because it’s got an Irish flag outside. If your plan is to drink 9% alcoholl juice out on the street, you will be moved on pretty quickly, it’s not like here, In Kyoto there is a fine just for smoking on the street. What’s your issue?

I was looking into it and found a few places, one is an Irish bar called Molly malones that looks decent.

There is also a sports bar called the 50/50 I think that looks like it will do.

Personally im not a fan of Irish bars, they can serve a purpose if you want a bottle of bulmers to dampen a hangover or a safe and overpriced bite to eat for a break from the local food.

Gonna be there for the Japan Scotland Game so hopefully we can find somewhere full of locals and wont have to go to the Irish bar. If i want to meet someone from Tullamore I will just go to Tullamore.
