Hi all, I would deeply appreciate feedback on this deeply distressing issue.

We have been trying to conceive for over twelve months. My partner is almost forty, I am thirty-nine.

My partner went for a LLETZ procedure over a year ago; prior to that procedure she was asked if she was planning to have another child (she has two teenagers from a previous marriage). She informed them that she was actively trying to conceive.

Having endured months of trying without success she consulted a specialist outside of Ireland who informed her that she had suffered severe scarring around her cervix as a result of the LLETZ procedure. She made it clear that alternative methods should have been used, given that my partner had informed the nurses and doctors of her desire to have another child. She suggested that our difficulties in conceiving might be due to the scarring involved.

Having attended our local hospital this morning for a HSG procedure, my partner was told that her cervix was essentially closed owing to the LLETZ procedure - it was therefore impossible for them to proceed. She was told that she would have a repeat appointment with a specialist (date currently unknown).

She was too upset to ask any questions during the appointment but we are both presently in limbo regarding the outlook for our chances of conceiving.

Hi just came across your post as I was looking for information on the hsg procedure. Hope you and your partner had some progress since Jan.

Hi, we had a consultation during which we were informed that the scarring would not impede the entry of sperm.

Following that consultation, my partner had a laparoscopy that revealed no problems blockage-wise. They were able to dilate the cervix during that procedure. The hope is that any blockage was cleared by the dye that was inserted.

We are now in a situation where no obvious physical issues exist for either of us. We are due to speak to the consultant again in the next two weeks.
