As good as our attacking play was I thought the defence was rock solid. Read the game well, made some vital last ditch touches.
Dare I say it but I think van dijk has saved lovrens Liverpool career they look a good pairing.

Milner & Henderson in a duel holding role made us a lot more solid and was top notch from Klopp and both did great.

Let's see what wet blanket the Dunph throws on this performance....

    Find this harsh.

He always gives credit when it's due and he's praising Liverpool tonight.

Maybe we could both make the Liverpool defence? Sure even Lovren gets a game

People will say Porto were shít. Fúck that. That is lazy and predictable.

    They were in the game.
We got a lucky enough opener.
Then we stood on their throat and didn't let go.

They had no answer to that press.
They had no answer to the pace of Mané, the cleverness of Firmino or the greatness of Salah.
They had no answer to Gini's energy.
They had no answer to VVD clearing ever corner.

    We were just fúcking good.

I'm not having it that Porto are just crap. Same as I heard people talk about Juve being old, thus taking away from Spurs' comeback. No. Porto have a decent defensive record, and Conceicao had them playing well.

We just did what we do when we're at our best.

    Get fúcking in. Brilliant night.

Van Dijk & Robertson 2 huge additions.

Our front 3 is amazing. And Klopp has developed their combinations & forward positioning incredibly well. Not a better attacking manager in Europe except for maybe Pep.

28 - Liverpool have scored more goals than any other team in the Champions League this season, with 25 of those goals coming across their last five games.

At 5-0 I'd wonder if Klopp will even show up to the 2nd leg.

That was super stuff. VVD is a Rolls Royce in defence, brings a nice calmness to it which even seems to have rubbed off on Karius.

    Milner superb.

And our front 3 is pretty incomparable when they're on their game. A fantastic performance and result!

As was said earlier Porto didn't beat a couple of no marks in the group, 3rd and 4th in their group are currently 2nd in the Bundesliga and Ligue 1. They're a decent side who just got out played by a team that is very good and capable of being unplayable.

Would you ever. They are a very good El side. They got through their group but they are not that good a team in any way. They won't threaten a weakened side at anfield

Excellent performance all around, controlled the tempo of the game nicely, defence looked good with VVD in there, everyone played well.

Milner the MOTM for me, thought he played perfectly, no idea how he did'nt pick up a yellow though!

Dunphy making a good point for once, saying Milner an improvement on Can in many ways.

    He was immense tonight.

:D Porto are a millions miles from the AVB era side that swept all before them playing some brilliant high press football. This lot would be mid table in the Prem.

If only we could play Porto every week.

Ronalso still has it I see. What a player.

    A penny for Neymar's thoughts ???

VVD looks to be great for Karius. Plenty of communication and encouragement.

Just saw him give a handshake/high 5 to Karius for coming out even though Porto were offside.
Never really saw that before he arrived.

On the 83rd minute VVD tracks the Porto guy going to the ball, just before he goes he tells Lovern to follow the run in behind.

Before VVD came out CBs would have stepped up rather than track the runners.

A penny won’t do it, €450k and a further bonus of €50k if his thoughts meet certain expectations.

Wish BT would not give away the scores in other games

Yeah, very annoying, especially when the games don't impact each other.

Had hoped to watch the full Madrid game after without knowing. Just settle for highlights now I guess.

    Delighted for Mane.

He's being going through a ropey period lately, but he's never hid or stopped working hard. He got a break for his first goal but visibly grew after and was cock a hoop by the end of the game. Delighted for him, but Bobby.... well its Valentine's day, I Loooove him 😘

As a pure attacking manager Klopp is the best and Pep has said the same. His vision has moulded that front 3 and they would be at home in any top side. Clinical and work so hard.

Holy ****, that is fantastic from Petr Cech. Fair play. What Mason is going through is horrible, so I can only imagine how much that meant to him.

If only we could defend or manage a lead better(apparently we've dropped loads of pts from winning positions) .. We'd be unstoppable

Second leg against Porto is 4 days before the Man United game as well. Handy.

I think the fact that it was CL 2-legged knockout football wrongfooted me a bit.

There's kinda nothing wrong coming into a tie like this and just passing the ball around for a bit.
The conditions were ****e as well, so that's another thing.

The commentators were talking about how Porto were a pressing side but they stood off us early on, so maybe that was a factor as well.
There wasn't a huge amount of space in midfield and Gini and Milner were anonymous for that period, we had no way of getting the ball up field, and it all looked a bit pointless.

At times Porto worked well through the press and they created a couple of chances. They didn't look like total muppets.

However, once the first goal went in, they maybe came out and stretched a little bit more, and we started to get out wide a bit better.
They opened up, which they had to, but what they never did was show a shred of intensity.

You can't turn up against Liverpool and stroll around the pitch expecting to get anywhere.

In the end, because they put no real pressure on us, we had total control of the tempo, so we could wander around the place like it was a training match, and then everyone now and again, we'd spot a gap, or we'd trigger the press and go at them, and they had no answer.

Truly, Porto were absolutely dreadful and we'll surely have a real test at some stage, with it being unlikely any team as good as or worse than Porto will be left, but it was still very solid, very professional and while we were gifted an opening, we cruised off the quality of our front 3 after that and most of the goals were really top class stuff.
