Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

But how would Porto do on a cold Wednesday night in Stoke?

    Now thats a conundrum.

West brom came to Anfield twice this season. Knocked us out of the Fa Cup and got a draw in the league. We played Porto away and destroyed them

I think it's important to maintain the right mentality throughout the team so for that alone I'd like to see the best possible team start against Porto. For want of a better word, I don't want to see standards slip. Porto deserve to be shown respect as well.

Personally, everyones different, but I'd rest as many as possible. Huge game after the West Brom one, sorry I meant Porto.
They're not going to hockey us, I'd take a 2-0 loss in that one and be ready for United if it came to it.

Nah, **** that. I don't want us losing ever, regardless of what's up next. I'd take a dull draw but I hate us losing no matter who takes the field for us.

Didn't say I wanted us to lose. Why would I want that?

What I'm saying is I'd take risks if we kept everyone sharp for OT. If we lose but get through, ok.

Not mutually exclusive, you could field a weakened team for Porto and get the dull draw you mentioned and still lose at the weekend.

The point really is I'd go with the weakened side.

If Porto got 2 first half goals against a weakened team we'd be wishing the strongest team was out there though.

After Istanbul we of all football fans know anything can happen.

I was pointing out that you'd take a loss but that I wouldn't. Simple.

theres always the subs bench. And nobody is suggesting we send out the under 16's here.
Just rest a few key players and name them as subs.

I mean the other side of the coin would be we field our best side and Salah or Bobby get injured. Then people will be saying it was an unnecessary risk.

Evening people first post on this thread,I'd agree go with a strong team but not the strongest possible maybe have a few of the strongest players on the bench

Good for you, I'd take a loss if we won at OT and got through midweek.

Doesn't equate to me wanting us to lose.

Well looking at the league position of both Porto and west brom have to say Porto are stronger, but how strong is the Portuguese league and maybe Porto have written this return leg off aswell and mightn't be at full strength either

Not sure who they have in the league in two weekends but pride might compel them to field the best possible side. Obviously Liverpool can't take them too lightly and won't.

Aside from all the West Brom stuff, and we love the West Brom talk.... It will be nice to welcome Rafa back Saturday.
I'd love to be at this game.

Rafa is a fcukin hero for me, I love the guy. Best moments of my life following us came from him. And all the help he gave and still gives to the JFT96 campaign, he's a gent and a brilliant manager and aside from Saturday I want him to do well in every game.

    Mig
    Clyne - Lovren - VVD - Robertson
    Ox - Wij - Lallana
    Mane - Solanke - Ings

I'd play something like this against Porto.
I think Can will play in the 6 role though.
Moreno & TAA will probably play too.

Clyne needs game time & id like to see Solanke and Ings get game time in a big game.

Klavan needs a game, so does Lallana and Henderson. Woodburn should be playing also, with Solanke starting. Is Clyne fit, then he plays also.
Mignolet needs to stay sharp. We have a deep squad, need to use it.

    Mignolet needs to stay sharp.

Only if you consider him more pencil than man.

I'd rather Danny Ward get a game if Karius is rested. Though his confidence is high and he's performing well, so no need to rest him.

Toby to play fly-goalie. Or maybe ask Porto to agree to last-man-back.

No but it was a bad call on Ward. You can dress it up whichever way but he had a good thing happening in his career and all we did was waste a year of it.
Did he not request a loan again too?

    No no no no.

No more changing goalkeepers. We had enough pr1cking around all season with that and it has cost us some important goals and matches. We are settled now with Karius and VVD as GK-CB partnership and that is the way it stays for the rest of the reason.

You lads are spouting on about West Brom all day and the reason we lost it is cos of big square head coming in with another horror show of his, because rotated GK position.

Karius plays every game for the rest of the season. As does VVD. They have to play together and further develop their understanding as to me, it is clearly working a hell of a lot better than any other GK-CB partnership we've seen over the last 5 years.

GK - CB partnership.... that's a new one.

So twas the CBs & not the goalkeepers coach was the problem all along :pac:

It's well known that you have to build a relationship and understanding between GK & CB.

How many times did we see Mignolet come for a cross that he had no right mind in coming for, only to balls it up and concede. A cross that could have been dealt with by a defender. Or similarly how many times did he not come for a cross that he should have and allow a free header.

This does not happen now with Karius and VVD because of an effective communicator and relationship between the 2 who knows who comes when..

All of the too GKs and CBs over the past 20 years have talked about having a good relationship and understanding with their defence.

Virgil is organising the back 5, no doubt. I don't think he's firmed a relationship with karius TBH.... karius doesn't leave his line too often regardless of who's at CB.
