Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Big problem is both FBs keep getting the ball and not shifting it forward or taking on their opposition. They’ve just passing it back into the mid, CDF or keeper. They’re the wide players but they keep playing it safe.

    Yep.

Hardly a great half but we'll take it, no choice really.

I really do think Henderson is a problem as a starter now, he played a couple of decent balls but too often he was raking up easy sideways numbers for whoscored, Can in that role is actually more dynamic and whoever arrives next season for the CM/DM has to be much more forward looking.

Controlled non panicky performance, exactly what's needed. I'd take 1-0 and a rubbish sitting back 2nd half now. Others do it to us all the time.

He's down to third now behind Ederson and Karius.

Always gonna give up a chance in these type of games. That’s a few times now that he’s made a big save when he’s had little else to do. On the right path. You can forgive the rare mistake when your keeper is saving you points. Needs to take his chance for all the remaining games though.

    Belgium.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I thought Henderson was decent and he made a couple of vital interceptions.

Firmino and Mane both a bit below par but I'd expect us to push on now we have the first goal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,056 ✭✭✭SuperTortoise

Frustrating 1st half, Rafa has them organized as you would expect, need to not get dragged into a lax attitude in the 2nd half, they could nick a goal and park the bus again.
Good save from Karius there as well.

Milner for Can second half please.

Problem for anyone playing in that role, is that it’s the FBs that are the wide players, and they are expected to get forward. If they keep swinging it back to the mid, in a 3 man mid that don’t stay close, the mid has few options. He’s played some decent passes, but Newcastle have all players behind the ball; we’re trying to get the ball wide to stretch them out.

    Belgium.

I’m just back from there and I never saw him once. He’s always missing when you need him.

from flashscore - RBL v Dortmund where its 1-1 at HT (Reus with the other, assist by Dahoud)
Goal! Naby Keita shows great vision to find Jean-Kevin Augustin (RB Leipzig) with a cheeky pass inside the box, and his first-time shot is precise and sails into the right side of the goal. 1:0.

A game like this doesn't suit him. With Newcastle so deep VVD would be on the ball and Henderson was within 5-10 yards of him too much. Let VVD have the ball, Newcastle aren't pressing him and find some space.

Keita with an assist in his return from injury, the kind of pass we need from our midfielders

Its tough for any team to play well when the opposition is basically setup to make sure you cant play football at all. I think we done well and took the chance when it came. I'll expect the same in the second half with Newcastle hoping to nick a goal at some point. They may start playing a bit late on if its still 1-0.

Need to not switch off at the back and take another chance that we'll inevitably get and we'll be grand.

Clever lad, if he always takes ages at throw ins the refs won't realise when he's time wasting.

early goal in second half be great even better if firmino scores it had bet on him as next goalscorer 9/2

That right there is what Henderson is best at, snapping in and winning a ball when the opposition are coming forward, giving us a chance to break

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,490 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

THey are giving a lot, which makes no sense as they are never deliberate

VAR gives that penalty, which is wrong.

Bit bizarre you're whinging about VAR when it's not being used or even talked about.
