Why should taxis be allowed to use bus lanes?

Taxis are not efficient forms of transport. They take up too much space and effectively 1 person in a taxi will hold up 100 bus passgengers. Solid bus lane lines and solid cycle lane lines have a different legal meaning to regular continuous white lines. There's no law against breaking or crossing them. There are circumstantial laws against driving in the lanes but that's not the same thing.
