By the look of that satellite, id say we will be counting the snowflakes falling from the sky later rather than counting the cm's on the ground :(

Please everybody remain positive. I need my snow fix to get me through until next summer. a nice even 10cm will do me fine. can melt away by tomorrow evening but 10cm will be perfect. Please Please let it be snow god whoever you are.

It certainly looks very weak so far but seems to have intensified a little over the last hour or so going by the radar. I presume it's rain in coastal places at this stage.

    West Clare at 16:00

    Temp 5.8c
    Dewpoint 1.9c

No measurable rainfall, drops evident on cars and windows. Very light.

Very interesting satellite image with a West to East flow W of the midlands and an East to West flow E of the midlands. Eastern Ireland clearly under a more continental influence. Sky starting to cloud over here now from the East.

Knock airport reporting light snow in the 4pm METAR, take this as very good news for anyone further east as there was no snow forecast for NOC in the TAF.

unless you are on very high ground you will be struggling to get more than 2/3 cm at best. We are talking about a light covering for people in the midlands and inland east.

Every single station is reporting either broken or overcast cloud cover at 3 pm. Doesn't bode well.

Wbt are still too high. Need those temperatures coming right down to zero at this stage.

The front looks pretty active so far anyway, but doesn't it have to meet the easterly air before it really kicks off?

    M1AxJLC.jpg

Most interesting thing is the front is quite slow, it's moved east about 100km in 2 hours?

Met Éireann have the front moving eastwards at 25 knots at 6 pm.

No doubt I'll get the usual sarky comments that are fired at non-believers, but i agree with Pad, there is so little energy in this i dont see any accumulations worth talking about other than a caster sugar sprinkling, frozen onto hard surfaces by dawn. To my mind Met E have said 0-3 for a reason.

any update on when the front will reach say...Kildare/Dublin?

It certainly does look a weak affair so far. It must surely be expected to pick up if to leave anything more than a dusting.

It's 90% clear skies over Dublin Airport now anyway, I can see from D7 towards the airport and there's one large cloud, but that's about it. Pretty similar picture towards the south too, there's some cloud out over Dublin Bay and some lurking out west. Calling it broken cloud would be an inversion of the truth though, it's broken blue skies!

I though a dusting was all we were expecting, so looks about in line with whatwas expected then

That’s all I care about, seeing the white gold fall.

I wasn't expecting much more than 2 to 3 cm but looking at that radar, I think we'll struggle to even get that, unless it intensifys over the next few hours.

Yes, at 4 pm it's scattered cloud (4 okta in the synop).

I think it's a lot of high precipitation not reaching the surface. Very low totals from this. The Harmonie could be right (1-3 mm).

What’s your wet bulb? Below 1.5c hopefully and dropping?

Looking at the 3 hour forecasts on met.ie I'm pretty sure that's just the start of the front. It looks like it will intensify

It's still a 50/50, I don't think anyone could call it right now for such a small specific area.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,839 ✭✭✭dacogawa

There is more in that front to the west, you can see heavier arriving just behind now on http://www.raintoday.co.uk/

    Yeah, agreed.

The only thing I would say is that Eastern coastal areas are almost as likely as inland areas to see snow, as the air to our east is cold.
