Temps staying steady with current values of 3.3c DP -1.3c WB 1.6c Temps were less favorable in mid December and we had wet snow so I’m still confident if the front holds as it is now that we could see some sort of covering.

Plenty of lying snow in Sligo town for the first time this winter. Happy days!

2c and raining near Limerick City. It's actually quite mild.

I'm not using scientific parlance here, but I can't feel snow in my bones. I'd say the chances are slim to none

It should be doing something here in south west Laois according to the radar but nothing yet.....Waiting patiently:confused:

Radar presentation is at least slowly improving and the best part appears to be headed for Dublin, still thinking that 2 to 5 cms would be feasible as this moisture runs into colder air in the next 3-6 hours. Would say trace to 2 cm for Waterford, 1 to 3 cm for Wexford and inland southeast, but trending to 5 to 8 cms on higher west-facing portions of Dublin-Wicklow hills. There could be a bit of coastal convergence if winds remain light southeasterly ahead of the frontal band.

As to what kinds of fronts, so weak that I think it's best to describe the leading front as a trough and the catch-up weak cold front merging with it during the snowfall event.

Would look for the snow to begin around 10 or 11 p.m. in the Dublin area.

Percip seems to be picking up a bit on the radar now, looking heavier in Kinnegad area

    Later tonight? :D

A wet-bulb temperature of below around 0.6 degrees pretty much stops melting of the snowflakes by cooling the air around it by latent heat-removal just enough. Obviously you can still get some flakes falling with a slightly higher wbt but they will already be melting and will be very wet/sleety. This for me is not real snow.

Where abouts, you lucky so and so?

I'm not too far off Ticknock. Considering a walk up to Three Rock tonight, but it's just so bloody scary

1.9/-3.8 @ Howth, temperature falling rapidly.

    Bring the snow.

    Howth is good coastal bellwether.

sleeting here now in cork city, nothing too exciting. Was forecast anyway!

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭ninebeanrows

The front looks a little meagre but at least it is beginning to sharpen. Catch 30mins of mod snow and we can get our covering!

Looks like it will be reaching the west suburbs around 8-30

  • Registered Users Posts: 261 ✭✭heffoo

Rain is moderate/heavy here now, would make nice snow for someone higher up.

Has turned to sleet now, horrible evening for a walk. The wife will be frozen!

More than you expected at this early stage?

Ye of little faith. We're in for a covering. No blizzard or two foot drifts but it will be white in the morning in Dublin.

Commute to Naas should be great craic

The view from up there at night is well worth it though.
If the magic stuff starts falling soon I may head up myself with the drone.
