hi.. anyone know if it's possible to walk beside the Cong canal just outside the village above the bridge before it enters the open water... the flow of water there is impressive and it'd be great to witness up close... i know about getting close enough near Drumsheel, just wondering about foot access further down river...

You can walk the dry canal through the old locks from here (as you say near Drumsheel) https://goo.gl/maps/6jWfAH1ZdW62 but I don't believe there is any path to walking by the actual water as it heads south to Cong.

The falls are at the back of the quarry. Have a look at the aerial pics on https://www.bing.com/maps as they are clearer than Google's. You might be able to cross here https://goo.gl/maps/VHMeegdzvx62 and walk down. I recall there being fencing but it's a few metres back from the canal for the quarry. Not sure if that strip between the fence and the canal is private land.
