I only use my mobile phone to send texts. I seldom make a phone call. The last text I sent was last week. My last Top Up was 1st September.

Eir have now blocked my phone saying I am not using it and I have to call to an Eir shop with photo ID? They say I have not been using my phone. Do texts not count?

Savannah and Joelle at Eir chatline weren't of help.

Can anyone explain to me what is going on?

If it's a prepay they go on top up duration. I believe they close accounts that haven't been topped up in 6 months. Recycle the number 12 months after that.

Lyca, on the other hand, go on usage of 90 days. So once you send a text or make a call within 90 days, the number stays active.

Thanks. I topped up on the 1st September, 5 months ago?

Will I lose my number if I don't top up?
If a number isn’t topped up after a period of time the number will eventually be recycled.

After 150 days numbers that have not been topped up will be unable to make any outgoing services. The number will still be able to receive information (such as calls and texts) for 30 days.

240 days after your last top up any credit left on your phone will be removed.

13 months after your last top up your number will disconnect. It will not be possible to reconnect your number after this period of time as your number will have been recycled.

Eir require top up by at least 5 euro every 5 months, I don't think it matters whether the phone number is used or not, top up is the only requirement.

I was going to suggest online chat but they seem to be unaware of their own terms.

Alternatively phone 1800 690 000 or 01 430 7066 to get the block lifted, you will probably get a day or two to top up, they may even apply a top up for you if you have a paper top up voucher.

Thanks. The fact that my phone is blocked will I even be able to top it up? If I just go ahead and buy a €5 top up will it release the blocking?

Can you receive calls or texts? At this stage, inbound shouldn't be blocked only outbound.

Drop into any eir store for a chat. It's good to talk.

will I even be able to top it up?
If you can dial 1741 and / or text to 50103 then it should but I get the impression you can't do either?

    Is it accepting calls?

Except in the case of Eir where both their phone support and shops are as ****ing useless as each other :pac:

No I can't get incoming either.

Interestingly their Chatline experts said the reason I couldn't use my phone was "because you haven't used it in a long time". Hard to believe that someone would say something as thick as that on a helpline. ( I had told them that I used it last week to send texts). No mention from them that my last top up was 5 months and 7 days ago, so outside the time.

How long is a "long time".......bits of string......Hmmm!

If you make a few more calls to the support number, you will find out that they can bring thick to a whole new level.
I told one of their support people that the iPhone, despite Eir's best brains telling us in writing, doesn't "brick" when you unlock it, and it doesn't lock to the next sim card you put in. I was advised "Why don't you f**k off and unlock it yourself, if you know so much......"

You should ask a mod to move this thread to the Talk to Eir page, they seem to be someway helpful there.

Had extact same issue this week, I found webchat & twitter support totally useless 1 even tried say number gone already (yet I was still able login to my account  ) after afew useless attempts trying talk to someone on phone I gaveup lol well no I played dumb used there business support number & unblocked in bout 10mins (includes having to turn phone off for bout 5mins)

Whilst I understand why they do it, imo they should send text/email to inform u before cut (maybe at incoming only stage )I had only used the phone previouse day & was waiting on urgent hosptial call luckly I was able borrow a neghbours phone, but very unfair on rural/old/disabled people who may not other means to get in touch or drop instore.
