Just an update on my grant application.

I submitted all paperwork in January and received an email confirming receipt of documentation on 4th Feb.

Pleasantly surprised to get the money in the bank over the weekend.

But didn't receive any email or letter.

    On grant stuff.

Sent documentation around Jan 20th. Received e-mail on February 4th confirming they'd received my application, 11th March funds were in my account.

Not bad shooting I don't think. Must have been in same batch as CH30H above

If you wanted just a basic no frills charger are you looking at the eo mini?

QUBEV 32a charger from EVonestop in the uk or Amazon. Or buy a second hand unit on adverts or donedeal.

Would you get stung for customs buying from the UK?

    Yes possibly.

You need to work out what’s cheaper to buy.

The charger from the uk cost me €231.

When I spoke to them about my alleged 2 year warranty, they reiterated it was a 1 year warranty. Sadly I have no retort as they are in Shanghai and though I showed them copies of our purchase agreement with it being a 2 year warranty, they are Neglecting my rights and saying it was half that…. So I hope your charger does better than mine!!! I’ve ordered another from a new manufacturer so I’ll report in when I get it. Hence forth, avoid MOREC chargers.

Hi, could anyone with a Zappi v2 confirm their settings for me? I have no solar so have the app set to Eco+ with Boost set to scheduled charging between midnight and 07.00. I've had no issues charging nightly at approx 7.2kw for the past 2 weeks since I got my EV but last night it seems to have only charged at 0.9kw/h. It was also saying "waiting for surplus"? Ive deleted the schedule and reset it a couple of times but it keeps reverting back to Manual? Anyone have this issue where it seems to reset to Manual instead of Scheduling everytime I close the App? Any assistance appreciated.

Well if you have no solar then you should have the Z2 set to "Fast" for everything, shouldn't make a difference really but still...

Hi, apologies if this is very basic stuff, but brand new to EVs (collected Ioniq 38khw this weekend) and trying to figure out where to start with home chargers. I have approval for the €600 grant sorted.

I contacted the local electrical company, asked them do they install EV chargers, they said they do and would give me a ring to call out to look at the house and quote. They are not a specialist charger company, just a normal electrical/plumbing company.

I assume going with a local electrician like this I will have to provide the charger - from my googling it seems hard enough to just buy one and get it delivered, most sites are companies who install them so purchase is part of that?

The one charger that was recommended to me was Zappi - looks nice, and one of the few that I've found that you can just buy the charger direct, but sadly their site says 5-6 weeks delivery, not willing to wait that long (I assume I shouldn't have to wait that long for an installer!) . Seen Wallbox mentioned, and they have this available on Amazon for £500 - I assume there would be no issue buying a charger from the Amazon/UK for use in Ireland? Is there a go-to charger that I should be getting that is most recommended?

And finally, should I be better off going with one of those dedicated EV charger installers (like EasyGo?) for all this, or is it fine to go with the local electrical company?

Thanks, and sorry if this is all covered somewhere but the thread is big!

can probably get them to pick a zappi up at the wholesalers a few seem to stock them.

Is it typical to be told by installers to pay before starting the job? Im very wary of handing over the money without seeing the install starting at least.

So the big issue for a local electrician is if they will provide all the necessary documentation to get the grant. There is information on the SEAI website on what needs to be sent to them by the Electrician and also by you. You won't get the grant without the right certs being provided. Beyond that it's really down to how comfortable they are installing them, for instance, you probably want a charger with a load balancing capability, this is not difficult to set up but you'll find people talking about this not being done properly.

That is not typical, no. Red Flag. It might be reasonable to ask for a deposit to cover the restocking costs (typically like 10% of the cost of materials). I wouldn't pay in full up front, sounds like a scam.

Thanks for the reply. The electrician is coming tomorrow so I'll be sure to quiz them on the paperwork for grants, and the load balancing.

From what I can see the wallbox pulsar plus has this? And I take it there would be no issue ordering from Amazon UK? May be redundant anyway if the electrician says they can supply a charger.

I'm sure they will be able to source you a charger, but not all chargers are equal. What are you looking for your charger? Like the Zappi will allow you do to scheduling and Solar as well as locking the charger etc, versus other vendors that just provide a socket.

    https://wallbox.com/en_ie/faqs is good.

You can order from Amazon, they'll handle all the customs duty and tax etc.

I did pay in advance but the Company had been recommended on here by a frequent poster and they had been very helpful with choice of charger and thorough on process so I wasn't too worried. They did a very tidy job in the end so all ok.

I can see why they do it as cuts out timewasters and hassle of chasing bad debts but I am sure they lose some customers because of it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 126 ✭✭ruaneg

I think if its a well known company its not too much of a risk. After talking with them I was able to negotiate to only pay on the day of install so all good. :)

Who to go with now if EI arent doing the EO mini?

My folks need something similar, standard install, short run, ideally around 1,200 quid.

    Hi all,

I am genuinely undecided on whether to get a tethered or untethered charger.

I need a type 2 charger and I have space on the wall to store the cable neatly . A tethered seems very convenient. I have no intention of changing the car again for many years . I not sure the inflexibility is a disadvantage.

    Any thoughts ? Thankis

  • Registered Users Posts: 473 ✭✭browne_rob5

I think Go electrical and Ecoplex would be options if they are in the Dublin area. Think they would do it for around 1,200 based on quotes for other chargers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 473 ✭✭browne_rob5

I personally cant see the any benefit of getting an untethered charger. I asked the installer why do people get them in case I was missing something obvious and he said some people are afraid of others plugging in for a free charge.

Seems unlikely to me and we have a locked gate so not an issue for us.

Quick question - I have an EO Mini Charge point and I can't seem to see a way of updating the time to reflect Daylight savings - other than just picking another timezone.

Not a huge issue , but just wondering am I missing a setting option somewhere.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,059 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

i got one because its much neater, i charge once a week so the 'hassle' of taking a cable out of the boot is negated by the fact the install is neater.

    For most convenience trumps that!

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,024 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

I had an untethered and changed to tethered, much more convenient than opening boot or having to go to lower boot for cable, also eliminates wet cable in the car.

I have ordered an ID4 and due to arrive in July (hopefully July this year... 😯) I have also 6kWp solar PV on my house, is the Zappi the best EV charger that maximizes the use of the PV or are their other ones that do just a good job.

    Thanks
