    Hi All,

What in your opinion are the best products to worm Connemara Ponies and foals and in foal? And same question with lice?

    Thank you.

For worming, products are not as important as active ingredient.

    The recommended dosage is usually:
    • Feb- Panacur Equine Guard for large and small redworm
    • March- Pyratape P (double dose) for tapeworm
    • April to Sept- worm every 4 to 12 weeks, ideally using a Fecal Egg Count to check
    • Sept- Pyratape P (double dose) for tapeworm
    • Nov- Panacur Equine Guard for large and small redworm
    • Dec- Ivermectin and Moxidectin for bots and migrating redworm

Foal deworming usually happens at 2-3mnths, 5-6mnths, 9mnths, and 12mnths with tapeworm treatment (eg pyratape) in one of the last two doses

Mares can be wormed up to about a month before foaling (preferably with moxidectin as the final worm dose), with ivermectin often used on the day of foaling. Ideally, due to the increasing amounts of resistance, worming through out the year should be done based on a Fecal Egg Count (FEC) which the Irish Equine Centre do
