Did the driver of the police car / breakdown truck open their door into traffic?

It happened in Canada - https://i.ytimg.com/vi/hY_GaBmqn68/hqdefault.jpg

Either drunk or on the phone or possibly both.

Looks like an SPSV badge in rear window, suggests a limo driver messing with his booking app.

This is doing the rounds on facebook at the moment. Lots of shouts of fake (it is sped up at the start), but also quite a few saying they passed the accident.

Pretty good fake if it is.
Even the BBC believe it's real

Van launched into the air during Attleborough crash

Dashcam footage has revealed the moment a van launched into the air after hitting a roundabout on the A11 in Norfolk.
The silver van had just overtaken another vehicle as it was approaching the junction on the dual carriageway near Attleborough on 1 September.
No other vehicles were involved and the van landed on the roundabout.
Three people suffered non life-threatening injuries in the crash, police said.

he clearly had a blind spot when pulling out to overtake.

a silly mistake but hardly an arsehole

Honestly, I don't think it's over the top. I would debate whether he even checked his mirror. The cammer didn't exactly just appear next to him instantly, they were behind the him and then pulled out. Did they even check their rear view mirror? A quick glance in the mirror or even over the shoulder would have shown them that the cammer was no longer behind them, so I believe they pulled out without even looking or thinking.

Of course, it's entirely my opinion, but I've clocked many thousands of miles on motorways and have seen this behaviour before!

A quick shoulder check would have been useful for the blind spot. As someone else mentioned you'd be aware of their existence after seeing them approaching in the rear view.

Just goes to show how many people are just on autopilot.

I'd say , on a fast moving motorway, about 10 per cent of my attention
    is on what's behind me.

"he had the white line right down the middle of his car"

How often do you drive with the lane marking down the middle of your car...

Shock I imagine but the car that hit the police car, (positioned to protect the stopped car) made a right balls of reversing.

Given that the impact ruptured the radiator. (dry road turns into wet road), it's more likely that the tracking of the right hand wheel is bolloxed and thus the steering is bolloxed as well

The State Patrol says the drivers of the SUVs suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were hospitalized.

Probably not for a clipped fingernail in the hospital, no.

forget about the blue sign, lets say the van got past that without clipping it

if you look at the pole to the right of that, it is quite clearly been knocked over

but look real close.... I think it has been knocked over before the van hit the roundabout

    I for one am sceptical

always like to see a bit more of these videos to make it a bit clearer

even if we got it at correct speed

Bit unusual of the Beeb to mention a police report that 3 people were taken to hospital in that case?

Yeah it's all over the news now:

    http://www.edp24.co.uk/news/footage-shows-van-fly-through-air-a11-1-5694117
Norfolk Constabulary confirmed today that officers were called to the incident, at the ‘stag roundabout’ near Attleborough, at 1.00pm on September 1 following reports of a single vehicle RTC.

Three people were injured in the crash and taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for further treatment. All have since been discharged.

Plenty of witness accounts and police reports on these news sites.

If you watch the video he doesn't hit the sign, he comes at a slight angle to it. Also it looks like he comes down hard on the middle of the roundabout and possibly on his side, hence nothing on the far side as he would have come to a dead stop on top more or less.

As for no-one stopping probably a mixture of not my problem and **** him he deserved it.

    fixed.

Technically, it's on private land, so rules of the public highway don't apply.
A Garda would need the land owner to make an official complaint to convict.

It is a public place for the purposes of the Road Traffic Act.
